Hi Guys.
My name Is Richard and I'm a new copywriter. Well, to be more accurate, I am studying all the different particulars of the craft right now., I just joined this forum and am really excited to be around some other people with the same passion for copy writing that I have. This is my very first post and I have a question that I need answered by some of the more senior copywriters I think. I am studying web copy writing at the moment and would like to know..........If you contract with a client to do a web based sales letter or other web based copy writing task do any of you that do these kind of gigs also do the graphic design for the final product? If you don't do this yourself do you work with a graphic designer that performs that function? If you farm out the graphics part of the work where is a good place to find this kind of expertise?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Hi Richard,

A quick note before I answer your questions: It's copywriting, no need for a space (and break up your text).

Not always, but I prefer to have control over the copy and design. It's too easy for copy to be ruined by designers/webmasters/clients.

When I haven't done the design, my copy's been dropped into either an existing website or a custom designed site. I haven't had any say in it.

Even if you don't intend to handle the design yourself, you still want to educate yourself on the basics so you can advise your client on how best to showcase your words.

And always make it clear, from the first consultation with a client, who's providing the design.

Hey, if you're capable of producing converting web/graphic design, fantastic. If you can also produce brilliant After Effects-style VSL's... more power to you.

While there are some big name exceptions, most copywriters don't do it all.

I always try to hook my clients up with the right designers, but getting everyone's schedules synced up is pretty difficult.

Since I'm focusing more and more on video, I'm trying to find some good producers/editors that I can get on retainer.

    Eventually...

I'd like to have every aspect of a sales funnel covered by a team I assemble.

  • Richard,

Welcome to the wonderful world of copywriting.

This is no other career you could have picked that will provide such an adrenaline fuelled roller coaster of an adventure.

And if the coaster spins downwards all you need are the right words to skyrocket it back up again.

It really is so much fun.

And don't forget if the incredible inter web with all it's shenanigans becomes a touch irksome...

There are zillions of bricks and mortar businesses who desperately need somebody who can sell with words.
