Copywriting From Prison...
Let's get crazy here for a minute and tell a real humdinger that will blow minds.
How bout this...
We put you in prison for forgery. Hmmm...doesn't sound bad enough, let's put you in twice for forgery.
Still seems a little tame...how bout 60 days after your last prison stint we put you in front of a judge and sentence you to life in prison for murder.
I dunno, still doesn't seem crazy enough. I know, let's say when the judge sentences you, you're so weak you can barely walk because you're almost dead from a fatal disease. When they take you away they don't even bother putting you in a cell. Nope, you go straight to the prison hospital because they're expecting you to die at any minute.
Sound crazy?
It's a true story that really did happen.
Matter of fact, Louis Victor Eytinge recovered from his illness and ended up being called the most brilliant ad writer in the country...and it all started from a prison cell.
One of the many things he did when he started out was write companies asking for samples. Then he'd take the letters, rewrite them and send them back.
Since the prison would only let him send out 2 sales letters a month. It caused him to learn the secret of writing sales letters with such pulling power that they were the wonder of the business world.
He ended up getting paroled from prison, only to later be sent back for another crime.
What ever happened to him?
Nobody is quite sure.
Thought you might find the story interesting too.
