Direct marketing for musicians?

With changes in technology and the traditional music industry, there are more opportunities for a singer or band to build a sustainable diy career "direct to fan."

I know the Grateful Dead and other bands are fan driven, but what bands consistently use compelling headlines, direct mail, email, long copy, calls to action, storytelling, multi-step, response mechanisms, and other characteristics of "salesmanship-in-print?"

This is a good question. I think KISS really did a good job of staying in touch with fans through the KISS Army and had a great LCV (lifetime customer value)

Motley Crue is going on tour and I have tickets to see them at the Toronto Molson Amphitheatre.

What I noticed when purchasing tickets they had their own "Up Sells" or "Back-end" packages. With the most expensive one being a meet and greet autograph signing etc. that was over a thousand dollars. So, along with the regular t-shirt sales and everything else it does a good job of really increasing their tour gross revenue.

The old "meet and greet" is a good example. I think many of the big Vegas acts sell those kind of packages.

Like you said, I see Motley Crue is going on tour, billed their "final tour." The first of many to come.

Marketing is not a battle of products. It is a battle of perceptions.
