Question about starting an Ecommerce business

I'm interested in starting an Ecommerce business. I'm trying to weigh my options between this business or a service that I can run from home with a website and physical assets.

Anyway, in terms of Ecommerce, I would be looking for goods that are low cost and good margins. Additionally, I don't want to have a large amount of SKUs. My intention would be to launch out of my home as I have a large amount of space (garage and a home office).

Any ideas on a market I can get into or has anyone had success in ecommerce in a particular field or products?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Steve

    Hi Steve,

You will obviously need help with choosing a market sector and product type as well as the marketing of the products, but that is not my field. What I do is teach how to safely source the products of your choice overseas and then import them without needing to learn all the rules and regulations.

With the huge profit margins available, you will only need a couple of SKUs to make good money, provided you have done your market research first.

You will reallly come to know about the in and out of the ecommerce business only if you jump and swip in the ecommerce ocean.

I suggest you to make out a thorough research first , fix up a product to sell and know whho your customer is. Understand about your customers requirements. Then plan accordingly.

Take care of your Website design and development. If you are not familiar in coding you can just opt for some ecommerce platforms available in the market. Hire an internet marketing analyst and keep on analysing new things and marketing.

    Hope it helps

  • Like others have said, start with a market you already have an interest in. Do lots of research and really get to know your products. A good foundation of knowledge plus a genuine interest in your items will help you with marketing and branding down the line. If you sold something you had zero interest in, customers could sense your company/brand was disingenuous and might shop elsewhere.

Check out the blogs of successful ecommerce retailers like Skip McGrath and Andrew Youderian. Lots of great resources on Skip and Andrew's blogs.

Good luck to you in your new venture!

You can start a e-commerce business, but start a niche that is unique and doesn't have much competitions. From your point of view, i think you are looking to start as a small e-commerce business. You can choose your own niche such as cosmetics, baby products, rental electronics etc.
