Selling Celebrities' drawings on Teespring
in short: I am working with an artist who makes original caricatures of celebrities, and helping him sell these on printed t-shirts on Teespring.
The celebrities are non-US
The concern: copyright + Right of Publicity
I've taken a look at this thread from 2 years ago: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...copyright.html
From what people are saying that thread, I understand that:
1- if you are selling an original painting or drawing of a celebrity that is not based on any photographer's picture, you are not violating anyone's copyrights; however you are violating the celebrity's Right of Publicity
2- if you have the photographer's permission to use his/her picture, then you can legally use it for commercial purposes, so printing it on t-shirts and selling them is OK. No copyright infringement.
But what about the Right of Publicity in this case?
Is what I'm trying to do here legal?
