Selling digital products - Shopify vs Woocommerce

I currently have a wordpress site that is sells digital products using PayPal payment buttons with the Wishlist Member plugin so members can download the product.

I now want to redesign my whole website with adding a real payment processor because some customers don't want to use PayPal.

I initially wanted to use Woocommerce as a new shopping cart with a payment processor and again a membership site like Wishlist Member.

Looking through the forum here, however, it seems that most people recommend using Shopify and Stripe as a payment processor. It seems almost like Wordpress as ecommerce platform is dead.

Going through the Shopify themes, however, it seems that they are just some pure shops that are used to sells hundreds of different products. I want, however, different product websites that comes with sales text and only a few different products. I want to be able to customize this site the way I want. Is something like this possible with shopify?

I also looked at the plugin that are being offered by shopify and they are very expensive. So I'm really wondering why people prefer it over the Wordpress route that used to be the most popular way with all the free plugins.

E.g. Sky Pilot that is used to offer digital downloads costs $75 per month if you need more than 5GB storage (which is really small nowadays)

Is there any better way to sell digital products?

I built my own e-commerce store with the goal of paying no fees for anything. If your going to pay to build a webstore, that is fine I guess, just make sure your not renting anything, other than a reasonably priced server. Although I guess if you do a lot of business, a thousand dollars here or there won't make a difference... seems everyone wants to nickle and dime small stores out of business with "solutions", try and avoid this. Magento is free, it is an awesome platform, but a bit difficult to learn.

I sell physical products, so I am not sure what you would need for the digital, however I would assume you could just make the download free and easy, however encrypt the download, and sell the encryption keys, similar to what Windows does. you wouldn't need any fancy storefront programming for this, and anything, including wordpress would work in this instance.

I would ditch the idea of an ecommerce platform just now and look at building a landing page with your video and about the product. You can try market the idea for $75 per month and see if you get any interactions.

You could use Wordpress and then build the website up as you go a long...

You are probably best off sticking with WordPress. If you were building a true eCommerce store, Shopify is definitely preferred over Word/Woo for several reasons. The main three are:

    1) You never have to worry about security updates of any kind.
    2) You never have to worry about your plugins breaking after every WordPress update.
    3) Platforms like Shopify are PCI compliant out of the box. Folks do a whole lot of chasing their tails trying to keep their stores PCI compliant with WordPress, which COULD become a headache with a real payment processor.

I used Woocommerce before it is great for begining.
I start with small order and customers, but after the orginal source code is not good for our business, i must upgrade and modify more and more feature to help our customers.

Then i got over 10k orders and 6k+ customers. The big problem appeared, website loads very slow. From 2s to 5-6s per session, it is not good idea....

And now i am using Opencart. Website is normal from now, i changed from Jan, until now i have over 8k orders and everything is working fine.

I prefer wordpress too. And Woocommarce as ecommerce platform isn't dead, especially when you know what plugins to install and how to works with it (not so difficult really, but much cheaper than any other platforms).

Abot payment, i recommend you to read this article (I found it really useful) - https://alidropship.com/register-dro...yments-stripe/

For me, Shopify and WooCommerce are the best platforms.
I just heard about cloud app can help us to run automated campaigns to pull more authentic reviews and perpetual, viral-email traffic to grow your ecom or affiliate stores and brand for you.

If you need any help about this stuff, please feel free to ask me.

    Thanks.

You are selling digital products right ? So why even using Woo-commerce or Shopify when you can get something only designed to sell digital assets.

Take a look at a plugin called easy digital download. Maybe you can see it in action by searching for OLEM WordPress theme. Rather than that, neither Shopify or Woo-commerce suits digital inventory (yes you can use them, but there are better alternatives).

    Regards

    Hi,

There are some kind of platforms that will allow a customer to select your digital products, pay for it, and have it instantaneously delivered to them with complete hands-off automation with no setup fees, no monthly fees, no hosting fees to worry about and it will show you a crystal clear dashboard of exactly how many views and sales your digital products have racked up but the payment using Paypal or card payments.
