From the other side... How can I attract drop shippers?

Hi Warriors,

This is a question "from the other side". A few months ago, I was hired by a company that is interested in selling Peruvian products as much as they can (like everyone else, I know). I mentioned my manager the idea of finding drop shippers for their products, and he loved the idea. Now I am in charge of helping him find a few drop shippers to begin.

So well, I want to hear from you, who do this every day. What information is important for you when choosing a supplier? What would be ok, and what would be awesome in a drop shipping agreement with a supplier?

Your feedback will be of great help.

Cheers,
Tedel

Of course the wholesale price is important - we need to compete with other online stores, after all.

A clear and responsible returns/warranty policy is imperative.

Consistent product inventory and communication when something goes out of stock/comes back in stock is important.

A well made product that is not going to result in returns.

Knowing how much shipping will be and not having to guess.

I used to hate supplier that changed their products so quickly that by the time you got a product listed and marketed they no longer had it available.... consistency is valuable for dropshipping.

Clarity when it comes to incentives and discounts for volume purchasers.

Dedicated support to larger operators to ensure their business flows smoothly.

One supplier I work with has a specific team member who looks after our account. I have their direct number and they have mine so if there are any issues they are resolved very quickly.

Depending on the industry a referral system to help promote the drop shipper's website and refer traffic from enquiries to the wholesaler that the wholesaler doesn't wish to supply directly.

In many circumstances a wholesaler may not want the additional administration costs of servicing a multitude of smaller purchases and they would prefer to invoice fewer larger account holders. This links in with the referrals system.

A retailer / dropshipper will be attracted to the potential of referred traffic as they are always looking for more business so when a supplier can generate some of their traffic it becomes a attractive proposition.

In the early days online I worked with a particular wholesaler that built a directory and as part of that they sold territory to their customer base based on postcode.

When the public searched out a product and ended up in their system the prospect was referred to the client/clients who'd paid for a territory.

      Best regards,

      Ozi
