Amazon - FDA and USDA Approval

I'm planning on selling a food product on Amazon. As far as I know, I need FDA approval to list the items and sell them on the Amazon market.
I've spoken with 3 manufacturers already and all of them have USDA approval but aren't approved by FDA.

Is that a deal breaker for me as a seller on Amazon and if so, is there a way to work with that or I'll just have to keep looking for other manufacturers?

You need FDA approval to sell any imported food products in the USA. Part of that FDA process involves giving them prior notice of intention to import.

I think the process would be a nightmare for a small importer and I would not try to jump through all the hoops.

Yes, I called Amazon and they said the same.
I'll still go through it and do whatever it takes to launch this product.

      One last question.
Before I even import any of the products to Amazon. I have to send them all documents and wait for the 100% approval to sell. Am I correct?

Yes, but you will need the approval of the FDA first and follow that up with approval by Amazon.

Amazon will want to see proof that the FDA has approved the product, so there's no point in asking Amazon until you have that.

Then the red tape gets even more difficult because you have to notify the FDA of your intention to import each shipment. To do that you need to have all shipping arranged but you can't trigger it until the FDA acknowledges receiving your notification and doesn't raise any objection.
