Can a jewellery drop shipping store still work?

I know they are very common in e-commerce these days, but I was wondering can a Jewellery store still work? I was planning on entering a relatively specific niche. The niche has a big enough audience.

If one is to succeed in this niche, they would have to stand out from the crowd. I'd want to try make it a more personal experience for my customers. I was planning on getting suitable models to model my products and get professional photos taken of both the products and the models modelling them. I would also write a blog that would appeal to people in this niche. I would make sure my store is smooth looking and use social media to promote my shop. I am willing to work hard to make my shop stand out to potential customers.

Could anyone share their advice or opinion on whether starting a shop in Jewellery is advisable? If so, what advice would you give to make my shop stand out from the competition and to build a brand of sorts.

    If people are buying things, it is a niche that can be successful provided there are decent profits.

    One of our most successful sites is in the jewelry niche - one we started about 2 years ago. It is extremely "niche", so I'd say you are on the right track.

      Thanks, Dave. Someone raised the issue to me elsewhere about low margins being a potential stumbling block. If I was making $10-15 profit margins before marketing costs, would that be enough? I would try to promote multiple purchases in the one order by offering free shipping above a certain amount or a % off the total if they spend over x amount.

      Are these margins manageable?

        Maybe ... We try to average at least $25 profit per sale in order to break even on advertising. Whether that means the average cost of a single item brings you that or the average order ends up being that because of add-ons, it's the same thing.

        Also, if you are in the type of niche where you are pretty sure that previous customers will buy again, it changes things. You can even take a bit of a loss on the first sale if the majority of people are going to buy again and again.

    I would advertise initially on IG through influencers related to the niche initially, to suss out interest in the products. After that, I can target them through facebook ads.

    My only worry is in regards to profit margins after factoring in ad spend.

    I am at the stage where I just need to start something and learn how to set up and run a store and learn from my mistakes. I am very guilty for never pulling the trigger.

    If I can't find anything else, I will run with this in a week or so.

    Any other advice, folks?

    I assume you have considered eBay as an outlet and dismissed it for some reason? I'd like my own online shop/website/brand but I'd like to make money more, and eBay is such a doddle and jewellery customers abound and buy your stuff at good prices.
