I think the best e-commerce platform to work with are the one which can provide you with fast and reliable services. The success or the failure of an online business will depend on how reliable the e-commerce platform you work with.

No offense, but you already have the players. Why not do your own research? I really doubt most of us have the time to do your work for you. (There are consultants here that will do an in depth analysis for you on a fee basis)

Otherwise, go to each site and try the products. They offer free trials. It will take you some time, but it is the only sure way you will find the platform right for you.

    Good luck.

I think you can ask for a trial period to check the reliability of the platform that you wish to work with. This is to ensure that you will not be wasting your time and money. Besides the success and failure of a business can be trace because of a not satisfactory e-commerce platform. Good Luck to you.

How i can go with trial period. This is not software that we can install and then change it if not like. This is Business and we can't try it again and again all one by one. I am looking best and perfect platform which provide us Good Solution. I have found few template on Magento. They are looking Google but How platform work. I have no idea about it.

This is final thing and its all

I`d advice some WP solution. I myself gonna build a webstore and I`m looking for good solution with adequate support without throwing heaps of money on it. Been watching after these guys during a month. Imho they gonna offer something powerful enough and much more user-friendly than Woo Commerce does. Subscribed for Beta.

Jeff, It is always depends on number or services and product you want to sale.

If you have large number or product and you want all the eCommerce features like, customer management, order & invoice management and all.

Based on your requirement you can choose eCommerce platform, If you have limited product or services which you want to sale than I will not recommend you Managento.

Like others have said, if you don't give detailed requirements of your needs, no one can give you good advice as to what platform to go with. If you list out what exactly you need, we can point you towards the proper platform. Things like:

      Number of products/SKU's
      Number of Categories/Sub-Categories
Option and variant structure (lots of individuals or consistent structure, ie.S, M, L)
Technical expertise (how comfortable are you with FTP, servers, etc)
      Budget
      Time
      Multi-store or single store?

If you have low budget and little technical skills I wouldn't use Magento as it has a learning curve. Given the questions you are asking, my best bet would be to go with a hosted application and one of the easier ones. BigCommerce, Shopify or CoreCommerce (I have a review of CoreCommerce coming out on Friday on my site).

Look, ALL WP based solutions are best for SEO. That`s not a Woo Commerce feature, man. It`s a WordPress`s one.
Woo Commerce offer thousands of themes, but best of them are pretty expensive. Themes become outdated and Woo Commerce is not compatible with free themes or themes of indipendent developers! Also this solution is pretty slow, has long check out process. And it`s pretty hard to customize if you do not want pay more.

I`m not experienced enough with Woo Commerce -- okay. But I lurked much about it. I know their prices. And I dislike their WAY of moving forward.
What they`re selling? They`re selling goddamn THEMES. But themes are just dressing. Dressing is outdating. Their eCommerce "engine" is free. But every small customization thing is for good money. Is it honest enough? Imho they`re greedy bast***s.
            What I want? I want
            a) a powerful user-frienfly WP based eCommerce platform (compatible with millions of existing themes -- free or not) for moderate sum of money paid monthly.
            Also I want
            b) FREE THEMES could be changed in some clicks at will and
            c) a good cust.support.
The guys I found gonna offer these things. And I watch after what they are doing.

            What about SEO?

For large volume sales and/or many products I would go with Magento. It is full featured and can help you manage large amount of stock, customers, orders, etc
If you sell just a few items, low volume sales, one of a kind items, etc, then I would go with Wordpress. Super quick to add individual products, check orders, plus the vast amount of Wordpress plugins that you can use to your needs are great.

Look around for screenshots/feature lists/video demos of both Woocommerce and Magento to help you decide.

My advice is to try to setup Woocommerce or another plugin and see if it suits your needs. Magento is more difficult and time consuming to set up (worth it though)

magento is the cake these days. it's the wordpress of e-commerce sites.

    period, ".", p-e-r-i-o-d

eBay bought a stake in them for some hundreds of millions for a reason and their usage from small business to enterprise proves it's flexible.

Many of these others will get the job done but I don't see how anyone could really argue they could out do magento.

I don't know about from an SEO perspective, but OpenCart has been great for me so far. Fastest to get running out the box, uses little resources, many extensions for anything you could want to do.

I installed prestashop and magento too, but I didn't like the amount of options to configure. It all depends do you want a small simple cart or a powerhouse to serve many users.

    Hi,

My vote is for WordPress. I've many own WordPress eCommerce sites.

In this platform, We can get Plugin support easily.

Every User can handle their own site without knowing much more about WordPress.

eg : To optimize any post, you can do ON-PAGE SEO with all post using either "Allinone" and "ultimateseo".

So My experience with WordPress is really awesom.
For E-commerce site you need to optimization with each post at your end.
    WordPress support for it.

I think you want to create like "http://www.flipkart.com/"
If so then you can contact us.

I suggest you Wordpress with Woocommerce because it's easy to manage, install and implement, as well as it's excellent for SEO.

But if you really want a very robust solution goes by Magento, that is the best in my opinion despite it is more complicated to setup and also requires a nice host plan!

Go for custom .php setup, you can use themes for eCommerce either paid or free ones, any way after a while once you get some practice, you going to modify your store anyway. Some function you will not require, some you want to add, for this eCommerce have gazilions free plugins. Find someone locally to do settings, it will take sometime for you to figure out what you need and what not, at least it can be changed in your present

I used to own two clothing lines and I sold both lines online. I have tested ALL E-Commerce platform and I mean all, Volusion, BigCommerce, Magento, WooCommerce, JigoShop, Prestashop. OsCommerce...and such. Towards the end, I really liked BigCommerce for it's ease of use although you are very limited when it comes to how your site design will look like and there was always that monthly fee & if you messed up, they could suspend your store.

Nowadays, I design & develop websites (including ecommerce sites) for clients and I wouldn't recommend anything other than WooCommerce. There are tons of options when it comes to themes, and as far as functionality- they have tons of extensions that you can take advantage of. Couple that with the fact that you entirely own your store (and not pay a monthly fee like BigCommerce) + great for SEO, and you've got yourself a great platform.

So my vote goes for WooCommerce.

Good luck, and let me know if there's anyway I can help.

For the non-technical person, a hosted option is better - IMO Shopify and BigCommerce are best.

For the technical person, self-hosting using Magento is an option for a medium to large size site but I'd still recommend going the hosted route starting out.

For me Magento platform is best in compared to others.
The top reasons why I prefer Magento over other platform:

a)Customers finds it easy for searching and purchasing products through Magento equipped website, well known for its quickness and versatility and allows you to modify your ecommerce website by itself, which is not supported in other e-commerce platforms.

b)Besides providing marketing and catalog management tools, Magento supports strong SEO solutions and flaunts with exclusive business requirements of vendor.

c)Get full featured interactive shopping experience with Magento, allowing your website highly flexible as it is designed to be a configuration based MVC system.

Would definitely recommend Magento. The Community Edition offers more features than most commercial products, and has a very robust and flexible architecture. Just make sure you select a hosting that is capable of running it. Most shared hosts will have too many limits in place.

I'm back about a year later. Hope you used Magento. You can go with those boneheads at volusion or bigcommerce, but your going to FORK OVER a % of your earnings to them. If Magento is a little frustrating, hire a developer ...they're everywhere and is in PHP (alot of devs).

Oh yea, if you sell on eBay, I've had the experience in the last year during consulting to onboard a few clients onto Magento with the M2E PRE extension (multi-channel inventory and product feed to your webstore, eBay, Amazon Buy.com, etc). ...it's bad ass and FREE. Others charge 2% of sales LOL.

Only thing I WOULD say is that if your biz is new and a venture that might fizzle out or just trying something with no exsiting clients, then I might go with one of those others.

If you have a serious business (size doesnt matter) then Magento is the way to go.

There is a reason eBay bought Magento before it got to it's prime....

The others are good "out of the box" meaning, you'll get most everything you need with some clicks and setup. Where people don't look at is later on down the line when they need a modification, need to scale to grow or need some feature that's not included. Be prepared to either not be able to have it or pay a fortune to have them do it on their own time. Magento is open source for the most part and has thousands of extensions and addons. So many people use it that someone usually has already created an extension for most common site enhancements that you don't even need to custom program it. Just buy the cheap addon and away you go.
    Signature

Godlike eBay experience, talent and success.

Why isn't Prestashop on the list?
It's been my favorite for 4 years now, it's the best ecommerce platform IMO.

Someone here mentioned that it has too many options. Is this really bad?
You just need to familiarize yourself with the back office settings. Once this is done, you will find it easy and fun, and you will always come back to try different settings to see how results look like.

If you're serious about your ecommerce business, there is nothing such as a "simple" platform. It needs to be robust and offer different configuration to accommodate for your business needs.

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention SurfShop. It's open source and free to download and use. It's not quite as powerful, or pretty, as Magento, but it get's the job done and is very customizable.

If you check out and compare the top eCommerce platform then you will find Magento is more powerful and expensive then others, because it's easy to migrate and API allow different apps to syndicate the data.
That's not all there are certain things which makes Magento different. And that's why big boys use Magento!! Be careful if you ignore this.

I think the best e-commerce platform to work with are the one which can provide you with fast and reliable services. The success or the failure of an online business will depend on how reliable the e-commerce platform you work with.

I want to share here few names that are commons are today...

    1. Magento
    2. Wordpress
    3. Joomla
    4. BigCommerce
    5. OsCommerce

I want you will write down the name and tell me which one is better and why. So that I will have features of each platform to compare.

I am waiting your response for this
According to me, it depends on the number of products, the amount you want to spend, number of users you expecting for the site.

Considering a Free Open Source thing use Magento (Plugins & premium themes are chargeable for special purpose)

A simple site can be done with Wordpress + WooCommerce.

If you need any help do let me know.
