Hi,

I am planning on selling restricted items on such as Health & Beauty and Grocery. Can anyone please advise the process for doing this. Do I need to just them quality pictures. The items already exist on Amazon.

I currently sell media on Amazon.

It really depends on which restricted categories you want to sell in. Some categories and items simply require approval from Amazon alone. However, some items will see you required to obtain permission from the manufacturer (and to prove this to Amazon) in order to sell those specific items on Amazon.

Also, keep in mind that for many restricted categories you cannot just sell a few or a couple of any item. For those restricted categories you will have to show Amazon that you have open access to a steady and reliable supply stream and that you are capable of fulfilling legitimate orders for a long period of service. Otherwise, they won't open the category for you.

If you are able to gain the necessary permissions and relevant access to inventory, then you might very well find yourself positioned in a very lucrative and coveted area on the river. Best of luck!

Thanks, how do I find specific criteria. I have looked around the Amazon site and all I can find is general information.

Go find the categories or items you are pursuing and use the relevant link for each category to either contact Amazon or see the requirements. To apply in some categories, you will need to be logged in to your Amazon Seller Account. Use the link below to get started.

      Cheers!

Sellers are required to obtain approval from Amazon before listing in certain product categories.

Listed in the table below are the categories that currently require approval. You may apply to sell in one of these categories by submitting an application to Amazon:
      • If you do not have a Selling on Amazon account, please submit your request using the Amazon Services Contact Us form.
      • If you already have a Selling on Amazon account, click the link next to the category name (account login required) and follow the instructions to submit your application.
      [ TABLE OMITTED ]

      Products Requiring Approval

Even if selling in a category does not require approval from Amazon, selling certain products may require approval.

To submit a request to sell specific products in the Software category, contact Amazon Services.

Other than Software, other categories are not currently accepting new requests to sell certain products that require approval from Amazon.

      Before you submit a request

Before you submit a request, review the following guidelines:
      • A UPC or EAN is required to list items in most Amazon categories, particularly if you are selling items from major brands. If you do not have UPCs for your products, you may want to consider using Amazon Product Ads. Learn more.
      • Used items cannot be sold in certain categories. Refer to the Condition Guidelines Help page for category-specific condition guidelines.
      • For consistency, all Amazon product pages must include professionally staged images on white backgrounds. You may be required to provide image samples or links to product images on your own website when requesting approval to sell on Amazon.
When submitting a request, provide specific information about the products you propose to list. If possible, also provide a link to your company website.

Oh, and something else... If you keep hitting walls, don't get too frustrated or discouraged. Amazon has set up an Olympic grade set of hurdles for sellers trying to get in to some categories. Sometimes their information can go from lacking to downright baffling very quickly. However, they are vague and ambiguous for a few good reasons.

The first of which is that they are a business themselves. And, unlike the eBay model, Amazon is often trying to dominate certain categories or items for their own sales.

The second thing is that Amazon has been very careful to protect their brand. This means some categories require guaranteed quality products - from a limited amount of highly-controlled sellers.

The third thing is that Amazon will sometimes honor even the most ridiculous of corporate requests from manufacturers or distributors because, even if Amazon doesn't sell that product themselves, it is likely that they are selling or profiting from some other product or service from that company (or hope to be soon.)

Amazon is a great opportunity for some sellers. But make no mistake about it, their bottom line is profit and their bloodline is customers. So...
        • A) They don't give a quack about your "seller" experience versus their profits. They are not in business to give you a fair shot at selling, they are in business to make money for themselves.
        • B) They will protect their customer base like a mother bear protecting cubs and similarly their brand (which means they will suspend and forget you quicker than you can spell their name if you purposefully cross a customer or even if you simply break the wrong rule.)
        • C) They are quite unlike eBay when it comes to rules... There are no slaps on the hand. Which means you may want to actually study up on some of their policies, etc., because they are known for shooting first and (NOT) asking questions later.
With all of that said, it is still one of the best opportunities for sellers who want to thrive in what is probably the worlds largest online marketplace at the moment. You just can't reach out to such a high volume of customers ANYWHERE else on the web. So, stay determined to get in to your niche category. But if Amazon just won't let you in (for whatever reason) then just accept it and find another category or item that you CAN get in to. There's just far too much opportunity to walk away from over one item you can't sell there. There will ALWAYS be something you can sell there for a profit. Just stay determined.

On that note, I don't know if you ever heard of a guy named Jim Cockrum (I think his name is spelled that way) but if you search YouTube for his name you will find some great videos about Amazon selling, etc.

        Best of luck to you!

(Damn! No more hopping out of bed and replying to posts after two cups of coffee. I started writing another small book in this thread!)

And my noobiness shows through, yet again!

Apparently Jim Cockrum frequents these boards, so forget everything I just said and search for HIS posts on here. I haven't read any of them yet (though I will in about 5 minutes) but I'm pretty sure you will find a wealth of Amazon information in his posts.
