How much should coding/Programming Wordpress cost?

I recently had a website designed through ODESK. The designer used photoshop. My question is how much would a typical coder/programmer charge to implement the design into wordpress and have it function. Its a very basic contractor site with 5 pages. About us/Contact us/Videos/Pictures/Ect. I am getting quotes from US based developers and want to know what is a good price that I should be looking out for.

    Hi directimports3,

    The going rate is about $400-$500 to convert a PSD to HTML for a 5 page website, it will vary a good deal depending on whether you want backwards compatibility, and Responsive Web design.

    Beware, if someone offers you a lower price, for they may likely be cutting corners in a way that will end up costing you more in the long run.

    If you need to get it done for less then considered selecting a pre-built theme that is close to what you want and just have the theme modded. That is the least expensive way to go.

    How long is a piece of string? I bet you can find people to do it for $100 and others to do it for $1000. You need to be WAY more specific.

    Ah Laurence, you beat me to the punch with the 'piece of string'. Totally right about the price variations since the spec is too vague and wide. Direct Imports—you need to offer a more specific brief to your web developers to get concrete costs, but I would go with an established developer that can stand over their work. It's one thing getting a design implemented, but what about teething problems or updates further down the line.

    Is getting a brilliant ongoing service much better than saving a few hundred bucks on getting an inferior design implemented in the first place? I think yes!

    doesn't matter if the design source is from photoshop or not. as long as it can be diced or exported to smaller piece of images for use of creating a website.

    US based, would normally charge higher compared to India or Philippines,

    It really depends on what kind of PSD design it is. I am a web developer by myself and it is really frustrating to see some prices on oDesk, freelancer and so on! US based you are going to pay about 300 - 500$! If you work with an freelancer from India you can get it for 100 - 200$! I do not agree with those prices because for me the quality is very important. I tested a lot of freelancers on oDesk or other platforms but under 400$ nobody did an high quality work!

    So it is up to you! If you want a high quality work and a design which looks 1:1 on like the PSD you need to pay more! I stopped with choosing freelancers from different sources which are cheap. I do the work by myself because than I know about the quality

    If you have time and the will, potentially learning Wordpress nothing. Sign up for Wordpress.com, see how it works and if you have a web host, download the open source version from Wordpress.org to install on your own server.

    I'd encourage anyone to go ahead and try to develop for the web themselves, even if it's just for fun.

      I have the issue solved. Thanks I chose a good company that would convert my design for me that is dependable. I chose to go with a US based company that charges a little more but I want quality coding. As for not being descriptive and all this stuff about how long a string is that is basically heckling. I understand how being descriptive can help but most people are not looking for a quote. They are wondering what the rough estimates are. I know alot of these company charge by the home page/additional pages/ and if its going to require being responsive. I appreciate everyone's input. I really like being part of this community but there are alot of people learning skills from each other. I have expertise in ebay and importing. I know if someone came on here and asked how to import from China. I would say how long is a piece of string? It just really sounds like the community isnt interested in helping. I would have responded with something like some good starting points are these websites, then read this book, then call this person, if you have any more questions about sourcing and various forms to get your products in the country let me know and Ill try to guide you in the right direction. Im not trying to cut anyone down but seeing this kind of thing is negative and uncalled for in my opinion.

        mate, actually there is no price fixed for any work, some people demand high and some demand low price, but in the end it all comes down to which one is the best, some times the low price product is much better then the high price product so no one knows plus the rate of currency is what really matters the most. Its all part of the game.

        As far as your website is concerned, the more complex the website the more it will cost, being a wordpress developer myself i know this very well, but glad that you got your desired folks that can help you out achieving your goals

    I remember that last time I needed a customized wordpress theme (design + coding) I paid a guy $150. His work was top notch, so I guess you can get it even cheaper. I just wanted a high quality developer to take care of my website.

    For simple task, there are plenty of talented Indian guys who will do it for $50-75 for you. Also you can check the WSO section for complete websites deals, I believe there were some people offering customized blogs.

    Price depends on Client's budget. The current scenario is that developer gets adjust according to client's budget based in order to fetch the work. But you have to compromose on quality and support if your budget is low.
