Hi!

I'm continuing to plan and prepare for my ecommerce store that I hope to build this spring. I wanted to know what books or ebooks those of you who are experienced recommend for this field? I'm a huge reader and like to be highly educated on a subject before I start spending a ton of time on a project. Any books you know of both online ones and offline ones would be great to know!

Thank you tons!

Great topic, one I read was the four hour work week. The book was a pretty basic introduction to drop shipping and a few methodologies of outsourcing work. I am sure you can find much better reads.

Are you thinking of dropshipping for your e-commerce store, or are you wanting to make vastly higher profits by buying a small inventory direct from the factory overseas?

Oh yes I loved that book as well. But I rarely outsource things these days maybe once I start my store I will.

I plan to buy small amounts of inventory and also make my own products. Thanks for asking!

I suggest you avoid a couple of things that can cost you profits.
        • Don't buy from wholesalers. Their inflated profits come out of your bank account.
        • Don't try to buy from manufacturers by looking at the big B2B sourcing sites.
        • Don't believe the stories you may read about overseas manufacturers requiring Huge MOQs. With the right approach you can get them to supply small orders at ex-factory prices.
        • Don't tell overseas manufacturers that you are new, or a one person business.
        Regards,
        Walter

  • Import Export does know his stuff. I do endorse his advice in his field. He's a great guy - for sure.

I did importing for years (among EVERYTHING else - dropshipping, wholesaling, manufacturing, local sourcing, etc) and I actually learned a thing or two by reading his materials.

I actually just found this article online a couple of days ago.

I think it's got some great names in the list (I saw the Tim Ferriss book in this very thread, and I'm excited to read the one all about Bezos) -- I know I plan on reading pretty much every one of these bad boys over the course of the coming months.

Also, I think Seth Godin has a lot to say. You can pick up pretty much ANY of his book and come away with some really important and valuable information about succeeding in the world, given the way that it is today.

His book LYNCHPIN is a personal favorite of mine. It's not strictly about eCommerce today -- and it's really not about running your own business from home, either -- but it's got a lot of great ideas about what it takes to get ahead and make a difference today, no matter where you're working or what you're trying to do.

Also, his blog is a goldmine. Seriously.

He basically has the most brilliant things to say, and he says them better than anybody else can.

      Seth's Blog

You'll notice his posts rarely even come close to breaking 500 words. He's got a lot of genius things to say, and doesn't waste ANY time saying them.

I could probably take a lesson. Haha! Hope these helped.
