Single Payment Gateway for Multiple E-Commerce Websites?

I currently only have a single e-commerce store that is setup with Authorize.net but I am planning on expanding and opening 3-5 more online stores in the next few months and I would like to find a simple way to accept credit cards across all the websites and be able to manage them all easily.

Does anyone here have experience doing this? If so what have you found to be the easiest way to accept credit cards on all your websites and mange it all easily?

My merchant account is under my business name, not one of my website names. So I use the same merchant account for all stores since they are all under the same business.

Not sure if that answers your question, but that is how I handle it.

I already setup my merchant account under one of my website names, I wonder if I can change it and just use a general business name.

This should not be any problem. Usually you set up a merchant account under your business entity name but if you need to change it just call Authorize.net.

Authorize.net will only allow a single merchant account per gateway, they want me to create other accounts to achieve my goal. I might switch to Stripe which allows payments from multiple sites with ease.

It does sound like you might want to switch to a service provider that will let you manage multiple stores from one account -- sounds like you'll be able to do that without any kind of problem.

When it comes to otherwise managing multiple online stores, there are also other solutions that can help you out -- most of which will integrate pretty seamlessly with your payment processor.

Solid Commerce can definitely do you some favors when it comes to running your online stores if you're looking for something to help you keep everything synchronized.

A lot of online sellers can have a tough time keeping track of everything when they start to expand and sell from more than just one storefront. Solid Commerce was developed to help simplify this process, and basically brings every part of the eCommerce process into a single interface, so that you can manage multi-channel selling from ONE place.

Take a look: Inventory Management Software | Solid Commerce

If you want a bit more info, you're more than welcome to PM me here, or shoot me an email directly at sean.b@solidcommerce.com

      Hope this helps!

Stripe or Braintree will work well - if you're a developer especially.

Yeah, it does. I used to sell susbcriptions and various other payments for multiple websites with the proceeds going to one bank account. Offcourse, you've then got to seperate/designate revenue streams when you're doing your reconcilliation/accounting work.

The problem with this is potential chargebacks. When a client goes to your online store let's say it's nicewidgets.com . They buy a couple of widgets. Everything goes fine until sometime in the next month the client gets their credit card billing statement in the mail. They look at their statement and see a charge from something different than nicewidgets.com. They see on the card statement that they have a charge from Nice Corporation, Inc.. They don't recognize the charge so they initiate a chargeback.

So to avoid this banks and processors will tell you that you need a separate account for each website. This way it avoids chargebacks and also makes the bank more money in fees.

I have consulted many ecommerce clients over the years on this exact subject and my advise is to setup a merchant account with your corporate name and then in the confirmation pages of your sites and also again on your email confirmations make sure your client knows their credit card billing statement will show the charge from Nice Corporation, Inc. If you make the client aware of what they will see on their billing statement it will avoid most problems.

Again I have had many clients over the years use one merchant account for many websites without a problem.

If you ask the processor about this upfront they will always tell you to open separate accounts.

Branding helps with this. All my stores are branded as LABEShops and all email is from Labeshops.com. So when Labeshops shows up on their cc statement, it is very rarely a problem.

I have not considered the chargebacks, I may need to seperate the accounts for each website.
