Question about Ben Settles method?

I have a couple of question Ben Settle's way of emailing. For those who aren't familiar with it, you mail your list daily and entertain them with some type of story and then soft pitch at the end.

For those of you who follow his method I have a question.

I have a list that is interested in many different topics that fall under Internet marketing. The product I want to promote in each email is in one of the subtopics of Internet marketing.

Should I just start focusing my emails about that topic even though I know some people on my list don't care for that certain thing, while others do?

Sort of like weeding out who I don't want and keeping who I do want.

For example if your list is about making money but you just focus on sending them content related to making money with video marketing.

I'm asking because he preaches selling your own product, and I don't want to do an affiliate marketing approach where I sell them something new everyday on different topics.

Would love to hear your thoughts

Why not segment out your list? Give them the opportunity to subscribe to a different list that is exactly what they want.

    That way, everyone wins!

I'm not normally a huge Ryan Deiss fan, but his pre launch content for his "Machine" coaching program is superb. Last I heard, the three pre launch videos were still available. Watch them.

        Hey Edwin,

What you are talking about is one of the problems I had when I first entered the IM niche.

I tried to market to the Newbies who wanted to make money in online marketing,

I did not narrow it down to a sub niche within IM.

And it was really hard to make any waves because by just addressing the IM niche in general and basing your List on that .....well it was just way too broad to have a successful, focused effort. (from my experience at least)

Like others have said , you should segment.

You have You tube marketing, SEO, Email Marketing, Amazon affiliates, Adsense, PPC, Website Flipping, Domaining, Hosting, Website development. Article Marketing etc..etc.. it goes on and on.

Pick one which strikes your fancy.

The more you narrow it down, the better targeted your List will be and the higher Conversions will be for the most part. In a sense, you will be streamlining the whole process and you will optimize your efficiency by having everything so narrowly focused.

I second that, you'll learn great things about segmentation and how this can change your email marketing efforts. As for promoting your own products, this is what you want to do. You create your product, then build your list, and then, you can start promoting affiliate products (it's not the only way, but the best IMHO).

You can then focus on selling your product, but make sure you segment your list. Also, when someone buys from you, make sure to automatically add him in a buyers list because marketing to buyers is different than marketing to freebie seekers.

        Stay Strong!

        Franck.

Thank for the input. I guess segmenting IS the best way to go but if I do if I go that route than I won't be able to mail daily because than I'd have to many segments to send a message too.

I think I might start testing out only 'talking too' the people I want as my ideal customers and not talk to anyone else.
