Every subscriber is worth a $1 - Is it REALLY true?

Hi Warriors,

Just listened to a private audio where the common saying of "Subscribers generate about a dollar per month" is discussed.

In summary, what was shared is ...

1) A list that is built for free behaves differently from a list that people buy from you.

2) You have to know how to treat your list.

3) People who join for free are looking for information. When you sell traffic to these people, anywhere from 1% to 2% will click on the links in the ads. A good day is 3% and a really good day is 5%.

4) People who buy from you ... These are people you can build a relationship with.

5) Free will only get you so far. You don't have to sell to these people to make money. All you have to do is deliver traffic where people click on a link inside that.

6) The easiest way to build a list is to pay for traffic! (This is specifically true for the MMO/IM niche)

7) With your buyers' list, build trust and treat them right. Give them great value!

8) The monetary value with a free list is very small.

9) You need to have a guide / coach / mentor. Even if you have a blueprint but without someone guiding you, you're gonna find failure as the end result.

10) Easiest way to monetize free list is to sell traffic. Best way to monetize buyers' list is by building relationship.

Trust you enjoyed this.

Feel free to chip in & share also what you think?

Yes! You need a mentor to keep you going. When you see the results and you're communicating daily with someone who has those results, it becomes a reality to you because you know it's achievable.

This constant motivation is what creates results (in addition to massive action!)

I agree with some of this, but not all.

With regards to free list, I think looking at it juts for traffic is a little shortsighted. You could monetize free list easily with CPA offers that are free. And that's just one way.

I almost believed this $1 per subscriber stuff when i first started email marketing...then i quickly realized I really shouldn't abide by that mentality at all.

This is so variant upon the niche/market and how/where you pull your subscribers from (not all lead generation methods are created equal) that it's pretty much a worthless statistic to abide by.

What if i build my email lists entirely of people who buy my products? Unless my products are $1 a piece I could be hitting $50 - 100+ per subscriber, and I don't even need 10's of thousands of subscribers to do that.

It depends on your offers and how well you leverage your relationship with your subscribers to get them to buy/do what you tell them.

Another myth that needs to be burned, buried and forgotten is the belief that a massive email list of 100,000+ is automatically better than a smaller list.

      No. Just...no.

I recently heard this from an "expert" email marketer who refused to take advice from anyone whose email list had less than 300,000 subscribers.

These are the same people who think that a .5 - 1% ctr is completely normal for email marketing.

      Sigh~

This is a good list and it is helpful. It is true we need a mentor or coach to guide us with our plans. Thank you for this.

It depend on niche, but $1 for subscriber is true. If you have good list and use this wise you can have a good cash machine.

Not all list are equal, it would depend on how you build trust/relationship. Although I think it could be more than double when you have good offers that you think could REALLY help them.

Like so many other things that people claim as "average."

I had someone tell me recently that my video couldn't possible earn $6 per thousand views because the "average" is $1.

I laughed so hard. That was one of my lower earning videos!

Now they're doing averages for videos and view counts??

That's insane to consider for me because I've had videos never reach 1k views but make $100+ without much effort.

$1 per thousand views sounds horrible to me. How was the video monetized?

No, it is not true at all.

$1 is just an easy figure for marketers to throw out there when selling a list building product or similar; gives an indication on what you could be earning.

Every list is different, some are worthless, some priceless. If you build a list yourself, treat it well and it will treat you well.

Such dumb and misguided thinking on this whole $1 earner thing.

Most likely you will never go beyond that $1 because of you're thinking and how you set up your funnel etc.

There is so much to this email marketing thing and to me, [getting $30 per subscriber] having a DEEP funnel w/ upsells & downsells as well as a high ticket offer EVERY MONTH is what will get you beyond that $1 and on to $10,$20,$50+

Which # shows you how to create a lead capture funnel to build a list?

Which # shows you how to communicate to your list?

Which # shows you what and how to promote products or services to your list?

Without knowing how to build a list, communicate with that list, and suggest products that the list wants, you won't get anywhere further than you are right now.

When push comes to shove, the list above is pretty pointless. It doesn't help anyone build, communicate, or monetize their list.

    I especially disagree with #9

You don't NEED a guide/coach/mentor to be successful.

      Thank you.

One of the biggest reasons people fail is they think the secret is in the mechanics. They don't understand that people get on lists because they're searching for something.

      The keyword here is PEOPLE.

But then again, most people don't have the slightest notion of what it means to create value.

I have an email list of about 15000 previous customers. I'm wondering, if it is time to ask them if they want to continue receiving emails from me.

When do you an opt in email is a good idea, if ever? I always have an opt out option at the bottom of the page.

An Opt-In email is usually sent when a new subscriber joins your list.
I'm wondering, if it is time to ask them if they want to continue receiving emails from me.
This doesn't require you to send out an Opt-In message. The simple solution is to ask them.

Not only should you provide value to your list. Just handing over the know how is not always enough. You have to entertain, create a bond, and feeling of trust to maintain the most responsive list.
