Double or Single Opt-In????

Not sure which one to use. I heard single opt-in can really erode the value of your list and get you blacklisted by Gmail and other email service providers.

What's your opinion of this? Do you use single or double opt-in?

I prefer and use double opt-in... It makes me feel safer about spam complaints, and besides that, it gives me at least 2 additional pages where I can try to make extra sales to new subscribers...

I've run split tests on single VS double and double get's me a higher quality list while single gets me a larger list.

Depending on the niche, from my experience you'll lose up to 30% from double opt in.

      But, they are more responsive.

If you have double, you have no spam complaint worries.

If you look at the biggest marketers like Frank Kern and how they do it. I took notice when I joined his list. it was single opt in.

So, the choice is still yours.

You could set up and send your own confirmation email (first email sent) and those that click the link to confirm, move them to another list. Then you have a list of those that confirmed and didn't and see how they perform against each other.

I have both type of lists for different blogs. Here are the open rate percentage.

    Single Opt-in: 4% Open Rates

    Double Opt-in: 26% Open Rates

So Double wins for me as it also has more click rate.

In the end, open and click percentages don't really matter in this context. If your using single, you will still have all the users that would have confirmed. You can always prune your list of those that aren't opening and get a higher open rate. But are you loosing money from those that that don't confirm, if using double??? That is the key question and really all that matters when it comes to single or double.

If you're a novice marketer struggling to get opt-ins... No confirmation required.

If you're a massive marketer struggling trying to clean your list... Require confirmation.

Totally agree with it, actually a lot of people don't even find the confirmation email so you will never reach to them with your next email, so it will continue to lie in your autoresponder quietly.

However the quality of getting a double opt-in subscriber would be higher, they are so active that sometimes they email back to get in touch in my personal experience.
