Firstly, I apologize if this isn't technically the correct section for this post, but I have a few questions so I had to pick what I thought was most suitable.

Hello WF! I am a new, wanna-be IMer that has been lurking around the site for a few days now gathering information. Today I have spent some time getting started but I'm having trouble with planning out my exact goals..

I went ahead and made my first basic site using WordPress (called "EasiestWayToBurnFat") but I'm at a crossroads now with which direction to start heading. I know that I want to start building an E-Mail list because I have read so many great things about the long-term potential of a targeted list...

In your opinion, would it make more sense to...
  • Have the only page of my website be an attractive email opt-in box for people that want tor receive weekly fat-burning tips. This way I would be able to focus solely on the quality of the e-mails sent to subscribers.

orrrr...
  • Create an actual blog with daily weight loss/fat-burning articles, with an email opt-in box on every page, and incorporate CPA/clickbank products into the articles. It seems like this method would make the site look much more reputable, but if all the information they need is presented on the site, why would they bother opting in? Although there is a chance for upfront profits..

PS: I plan on using Aweber, if it makes a difference.

#1 would obviously be much easier to setup and handle, along with (I assume) getting more opt-ins per visit. However there would be no way to really "SEO" the site because it would just be a single opt-in page and there would be no profits except what is generated from the e-mail list.

I greatly appreciate anyone who takes the time to read and answer this! Any opinions are welcomed.

Peace,
-axe

If you go with just the opt-in then you still need the content as you would want to have at least 30 emails ready to go and add more, or do broadcasts on a schedule. (My opinion)

My actual advice would be to do both. If you can't think of anything to say in an email then just send an email telling about a post on your blog.

Whatever route you choose you need to keep your audience engaged

it really depends on what your GOAL is...

1.Do you want to have site that one day you can turn into membership site ? (one of the examples)
    - IF you seek for long term site where same people will always return then go with second idea

2.Or your main reason for doing this is to create list?
    - then you should go with simple squeeze page - 1 or 2 step optin form ( your first idea)

Also you said about seo and so on, dont focus on that... your focus should be on what type of site you gonna build & how to get traffic on your site ( doesn't matter single squeeze page or blog with 10 posts a day ).

In your first option you typed this " This way I would be able to focus solely on the quality of the e-mails sent to subscribers".... dont think that way... you need good quality e-mails in any option you choose. Good e-mail is like bridge between you and your subscriber.

My suggestion is to go with single squeeze page. Why ?.... you will get experience that you need so later you can build some long term site... in that time you will have small list - that way you can promote new site to your subscribers

    Hope that helps,

    Filip.

Great ideas, I really appreciate both of your responses. This board is amazing.

I will be setting up a simple landing page with an opt-in and have a Thank You page that will redirect to an offer. That way I can start building a list.

It's just hard for me to imagine that people actually buy stuff from emails they receive, I can't see myself ever doing it. But the proof is all around me so I will give it a shot!
