Gmail Clipping

I am getting my autoresponder messages "clipped" by The Big G.
My autoresponder messages are HTML.
Even if I make the emails as short as possible, and get rid of extra characters like italics and bolding, they still get clipped.
But I noticed a very prominent email marketer in the same niche as myself does not get their emails clipped. Even though their emails are long, HTML rich, have lots of colors, headers, and loads of italics and bolding.
I want to stay with HTML, instead of plain text, but a large percentage of my subscribers sign up with their Gmail addresses.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions...
and if anyone knows how this prominent marketer is avoiding having his autoresponder messages clipped, I would love to know.
