My Account Got "Closed" by aweber Automatically , can anyone help what went wrong ?

I am using aweber for almost 4-5 years now, and I believe they are a no-nonsense company. Their support is also reasonably good, and the service, software is good enough for my operation/s.

It was all so far so good until 4 days back , I was denied access to my account saying : Either I have closed the account or some rule breaking. I was not a spammer, and I don ot promote WSO offers, affiliate products , nothing of that sort; just promote my own products , they too are not in the IM niche. We promoto Water Treatment Products.

Recently I had neither scheduled any broadcasts , no special messages. What went wrong ? I started to inquire & investigate . My payment was made in time, but here I cound find a hitch. Everytime I get a receipt from aweber automatically when I make paymant from my Card. aweber (strangely) does not entertain Paypal. This time I had not got a notification & receipt. Thought, this would be the reason. So I posted all my research with frustration to the support team.

The returned with prompt reply that "there is a violation of message , which is posting some banned site." Shocked was me, as I have never done that , still how come.

I again investigated the message referred by them , in code the said thing was not at all there. Then from where it came ?

I further decided to dig deeper. I found out that the message was of "Blog Broadcast" type. As we all know, a Blog Broadcast is a message template we create just once & define the site RSS URL from where it pulls content regularly and posts to your list as email message.

Aweber again told me to check the Site from where I had instructed the BLOG Broadcast to pull articles. This was not someone else's site; but my very own site.

My questions :-

1. I have not seen the sentence which they mentioned anywhere, then how is it posted ?
2. Does it happen that while pulling RSS content , some programs run at the back and corrupt the whole thing ?

I need the answers as I don't want this to happen again.

Incidentally Aweber also returned my account & it's active at present.

I need help please !

This is a real cautionary tale for all of us... your list is your most important asset - so you need to be taking regular backups of it.

You can do this using Manage Lists > Back Up & Export All Active Lists.

If you find it's too much hassle to remember then I'd seriously consider using a service like AWtomator which does an automatic backup of your subscribers every day.

You don't have to think about it... or "do" anything.

    Cheers

I'd recommend that you 'self-host' your email marketing using Amazon SES and Sendy. Requires some tech setup, but well worth it.

This is really bad that they closed your account without any communication from their side after you been their client for the last 4-5 years.

I know they have reopened your account, but given how horribly they handled the situation consider moving away.

What might have happened is that if you use WordPress or something along these lines, the software either was hacked or some recently installed plugin injected something malicious into your posts.

Obviously, this is just a theory, but give it a look.
