The right way to do bulk emailing and build a massive list

I recently started doing bulk emailing under the guidance of some guy and I have discovered that this may be the fastest way to make tons of cash and also build a massive list in a fraction of the time it takes to do it conventionally.

But the problem is that most people do this the wrong way. Most people just buy leads and mailing software thinking that they can rock... but it doesn't work that way. To succeed with this type of emailing marketing which is sometimes called enterprise emailing one needs to learn and put in place what I call 3 pillars. I will mention the pillars below but unfortunately I may not be able to go into the details of these in this space.

1. The legal compliance
- Ensure you follow all the email protocol legal requirements so that your emails get delivered.
- Ensure that the leads you purchase are from a site with privacy policy that states that the subscribers may receive 3rd party marketing emails.

2. The technical
There are many technical aspects for me to try to even delve into but I may mention one or two. Also note that if you are using an ESP then some of these will be handled by them.
- Use your domain email with a dedicated IP - not shared. You don't send emails using free emails like gmail, yahoo, etc.
- Scrub any new leads you acquire.
- Use reputation monitoring tools to monitor your IP reputation... there are a number of free tools online.

3. The tactical
- Start slowly, this will help build the reputation of your IP and domain.
- Have extra IPs to test new lists you acquired.
- Use the best email swipes... this is obvious.
The above pillars are just a skeleton of what you need, you can do more research. If you are able to bring together these pieces of bulk email marketing then you are ready to start emailing to hundreds of thousands of leads every single day. Any one who is familiar with email marketing knows that having 1000s of people opening your emails daily is simply one of the best ways to make money online. I have also discovered that one could use bulk emailing to build an Aweber list 10 times faster... but only if you will still want to use such a service.

I thought could give my contribution to these who may want to go that direction.Sorry if it is not detailed enough. You may leave a comment or question below.

  • Are you using any software for bulk emailing and which SMTP server you use for this kind of email marketing.

Yes, having a mentor is the fast track.

Could you share the size of list you've built and if they are responsive I.E. are you making sales?

    Thanks!

      Hi Enfusia,

I may not show you my list for now but let me give you some estimates:

The list you will be buying from list brokers are general market lists, not as targeted as the list you build from ground up. General market are these niches that fit almost anyone. The three main niches are IM/MMO, Health and Relationships. You will need to analyze your list over a period of time and to segment them based on their response. These who respond well to to IM you place them on one segment. These lists are great for CPA offers particularly email submits and much money is made through them where email marketing is allowed by the Offer.

How profitable is the lists? Here again I will give some rough estimates... just some fair assumptions. The list are not as responsive and not as good as the one you build but it is worth it. If you buy 100,000 leads it is fair to say that it is equivalent to 10,000 list. This is because once you clean it up you may end up remaining with a good list of 10,000 people who are ready to click and sign up to you offers. Do you think this is profitable? Absolutely. Considering that the cost of 100,000 leads can be as low as $1000. My point is that this is a great way to do email marketing.

But of course the bottom line is being able to build reputation to ensure you get good deliver-ability.

This is basically wrong and I've got 16 years of real experience to back it up.

You mainly want to focus on PPL offers. This is because there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All user has to do is fill out a form, so conversion rates are typically much higher compared to offers that require a sale.

Some of the verticals (niches) that I have done extremely well with are: insurance, education, loans, credit, debt, mortgage, assistance, discount offers, homeowner offers, etc...

The key thing with the above verticals other than being PPL is that they have mass appeal. Should be of interest to a larger general audience. So the potential exists to produce high volume and it's fairly easy to cross promote them on the back-end.

While email / zip submits are technically PPL, they typically perform poorly and only pay $1-$2. I would stay away from them unless you have a customer willing to pay you on a CPM basis to mail.

I have also done just as good with dating website sign ups and pretty good with free trial + S/H offers. I also promote a very limited number of offers that are straight up purchase offers. However, mass appeal needs to exist and I look for one of the following to also exists:

        1) New and or novel/unique and you can't purchase locally or even something similar. I don't waste my time with it once something similar shows up in Walmart.

        2) The buyer can truly get what is being offered at a decent discount.

        3) Solves a house is on fire type problem. Which most of all of the above I will promote on the back-end.

I'm not a fan of MMO because they are typically all purchase offers and there is really only a limited segment of the population interested in really doing. Most people have job mentality. If you can get good targeted data that could help.

Bottom line: it's far easier to get someone fill out a short form than to get them to pull out their credit card and make a purchase. So why struggle with trying to sell this or that, when you can provide free information that users want/need and get paid well doing it.

Helpful list. If I may add, focusing on the content of the email is important too. Subscribers will stick to you if the contents of your newsletters are valuable.

I've been monetizing purchased data for over 16 years.

There is a lot more that goes into it than meets the eye. It's much like an iceberg where only about 10% is above the surface/obvious. It's the other 90% that will make or break you.

Unless you have a significant budget, the best way to start is by sending using ESPs / SMTPs that provide shared IPs. They will have built-in IP reputation that you can piggyback off of and over all get decent deliverability. Not that this is not without any challenges and you will have some collateral damage along the way.

You want to always be collecting your opens / clickers, segmenting and removing unresponsive users. Essentially you are converting the data from quality to quantity. Then later if you wish, you could move your good data to a self-hosted mailer and run your own servers / IPs.

You can start out by initially running your own servers / IPs, but you need to domain target your data and mail the domains that are easier to inbox and send volume. You will still end up churning and burning IPs, so you have to work with a mail-friendly IP provider. They won't terminate you over complaints and will be able to provide you with IPs in high volume at rock bottom pricing. You also need a professional mail and they aren't cheap. I have my own that I had custom built and over the years I've probably spent about $200K. Additionally, since you are getting IPs in volume, it's not cheap either. However, your per email sent cost will be super cheap. Also, they will have a replacement IP policy and you can change out your IPs when you have problems based on whatever the terms are.

If you ever decide to do this, never pay for your IPs upfront. You want to first be able to test and see if they are clean and not blocked / blacklisted. If you pay upfront and there is an issue, then you are at the mercy of the provider waiting for them to replace. Where if you haven't yet paid, you will be assured that they will move quickly to replace.

Also be aware of services that you can easily find on the web that offer servers / IPs and allow you to send purchased data. They are basically taking advantage of novice mailers. They don't provide any volume for IPs and overcharge for what they do offer. They almost always provide hacked versions of programs like Interspire and PowerMTA to mail with.

I also highly recommend that you promote PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers. This is because there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is fill out a form, so conversion rates are typically much higher than offers that require you to make a sale. This is what I mainly do.

Basically, I monetize the data using PPL offers because they offer the path of least resistance to generating conversions($$$) and converting the data into cash producing assets.

Mailing purchased data can be extremely profitable done right. Everyone that I know that is in the business, for the most part, does 6-7 figures. While that is a huge range, much comes down to one's ability to scale and effectively build / manage the infrastructure needed to scale.

I agree with DIABLO that there is more to it than just the basic info that we are able to give here. You really need some expert to guide you when you starting off .

But PPL and email submit may actually be the same thing. At the end of the day you have to work on getting a good ROI.
