Hi there,

I've recently started working for a new company. The list I have isn't segmented properly. Is there an easy way to clean up the list? Ideally, I'd like to sort them into two different customer groups (retail and wholesale customers), which I can then further segment based on purchase history, etc.

I thought about sending an email inviting people on my list to update the profile and preferences. Is there an easier way to sort my list? What's the best practice in this scenario?

Help greatly appreciated.

Can you not use the basic sorting tools in excel to manage the list and make it in a way where its usable for you?

      Thanks for replying.

For new lists subscribers, I'm mapping their customer group in Magento to a merge field in Mailchimp and segmenting that way. The problem I have is historical signups/customers on the list.

Is it poor practice to ask subscribers to update/fill in a profile for Mailchimp? Should I do this manually (time consuming)?

I've personally used BriteVerify to verify email addresses.

That would be the first thing I do.

Here's a video I made talking about it.

As far as segmenting the list goes I think an excel spreadsheet should be enough to get the job done.

Or you can go with the update your profile option if it makes sense.

Since it's a company house list, I'm guessing that you have access to their purchase history?

If so, hire an intern or temp to go through the list and tag your spreadsheet with a code (could be as simple as W for wholesale or R for Retail, or 1 for wholesale and 0 for retail).

It's a one-time project cleaning up the legacy list.

Once the legacy list is cleaned up so that it matches what you are doing with new subscribers, upload the tags to Mailchimp.

    Thanks, everyone.

I had a feeling going through the list manually would be the way to go, but wanted to check if there was an automated approach. Cheers!
