Have you tried to buy 3rd party email data and monetize it before ?

Hello Community,

I spoke to a friend who make 5 figures via email marketing. He told me that he never built a targeted email list. So He alway bought a 3rd email data and monetized it after cleaning the wrong and bounce emails.
Is there anyone who tried this method before? If so how you bypass spam and keep engagement with your email list ? And where do you buy a trusted email list ?
Thank you!

Yes I am doing this. As for spam & engagement, if your list is targeted and you write good enough emails this will present no problem.
As for buying .. you probably start by googling and testing the data suppliers you find.
Once you get into this kind a thing and make some contacts you will get other entries to lists that are more exclusive. No one will tell you about those I am afraid.
I sure won't tell you about the suppliers I found after putting a lot of time and money into finding good ones ...
    Good luck!
    it's def. worth doing this

How do you proceed once you have the list. I am with aweber; and I am worried if I upload mass emails and send broadcast , I would be labelled as a spammer and get boat loads of complaints and have my account shutdown, what's your process upon receiving 3RD party email data?

You have to setup your own mail server, you shouldn't work with an auto-responder because you will get
mark as a spammer easily and lose your account.

If you are running poor data it's not going to matter if you are running your own mail server, you will get your IPs blocked / blacklisted.

Additionally, if you run your own server / IPs you will need good quality data to start with so you can build up your reputation if you want to inbox. With ESPs you can piggyback off their good IP reputation and immediately get fairly decent deliverability.

Too many people tell inexperienced mailers to set up your own mail server. The problem is they all talk about sending mail and there is a big difference between it and inboxing.

I've been monetizing 3rd party data for over 17 years using both my own custom built mailer(mail servers) and ESPs. My first choice is to use ESPs, as it's far fewer headaches.

You can import subscribers into aweber, but they will supervise your import and it may get rejected.
Likely they scrub it against their own blacklist / supression lists. If your import into aweber goes through, you'd better watch out for complaint rate and bounces .. tread slowly
I'd say if you can, better have your own server, and use your own smtp or third party smtp with not so strict rules

I've been monetizing 3rd party data for over 17 years.

Typically I acquire data that targets PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers. This is because there's no credit card / purchase required. All a user has to do is fill out a form, so conversion rates tend to be much higher compared to offers that require a sale to be made.

I favor offers that have a make, get or save money benefit to them, as they have overall worked the best. They also tend to have the greatest mass appeal (will be of interest to a large general audience), so the potential exists to produce high volume and they are fairly easy to cross promote on the back-end.

Some of the verticals (niches) I have done extremely well with are: education, insurance, loans, debt, credit, mortgage, assistance, discount offers, homeowner offers, etc...

I have also done just as good with dating website sign-ups and pretty good with free trial + S/H offers. I also promote a very limited number of offers that straight sales. However, I mainly promote non-PPL offers on the backend.

Basically, I promote PPL offers because they provide the path of least resistance to generating conversions/$$$ and converting the data into cash producing assets.

As to your specific questions. I wouldn't expect any mailers to freely talk about their mailing strategies in an open forum or easily give up who their data providers are or possibly at all.

Anyway, I can 100% confirm that done right, monetizing data can be extremely profitable. Everyone that I know that is in the business and knows what they are doing, for the most part, does 6-7 figures. While that's a huge range, much comes down to one's ability to scale and effectively build / manage the infrastructure needed to scale.

There is very good money to be made in 3rd party data.
This is a good part of my primary business besides being an emailer also.
The thing is, you have to find solid sources for data, and you have to be able to setup systems that can handle this kind of data.
Its not for everyone, but with the right strategy, it can be very profitable as others have said here as well.
As always, on this forum, there will be plenty of people who will tell you this does not work, build your own list, etc etc etc. The sad fact is most of these people who say this are misinformed and have not realized or run this kind of strategy with any success.
Building your own list is perfectly fine and makes sense, but its slow, expensive and tedious. Using 3rd party data with a proper setup allow scale to happen far more quickly and cost effective then building your own list.

You can monetize it but you might be facing blacklist due to spam.

Sending to cold or purchased contacts is an effective B2B lead generation strategy as long as you're compliant with applicable laws such as CAN-SPAM (US) and CASL (CND).

It's important to work with a data provider that is reputable to ensure you're receiving data that's accurate and fresh.

And you'll want to ensure the email sending platform you use allows sending to cold or purchased contacts (Clickback MAIL does).

    Good luck!

Yes it is a strategy that works, however building your own targeted email lists will yield better results over time. You will less likely face blacklisting issues and spam complaints with your own lists.
