How Would You Monetize

I am working with someone with two sites I am personally involved with. One is a free classifieds site and the other is about names.

Both sites have substantial lists that need to be cleaned up but they are looking for ways to monetize the email lists.

What approach would you take for the email marketing? I personally believe that the lists may in fact be sufficient, or should be, to fund the entire operation. That being said, I have some ideas, but none that are exceptionally striking or that stand out as anything out of the ordinary.

    If they want to clean the list then it is probably something that has been ignored for a while. So, you could always send some low entry offers such as Sweepstakes, Coupons, Freebies, surveys, etc. Very low payments in the $1.00 to $2.00 but really easy and nothing to buy. Usually, a Zip Code Submit or email. It could be the first step in identifying who is still engaged.

    These are both very well developed and established sites. Polls and other email intrusions would probably not fit in with the theme of the site or otherwise add any value for the readers. Increasing open rates for the ad site is easy by providing them with something, but not everyone will continually use online ads.

    The baby names site, again, the imperative point is to provide something of value to the reader at the same time as monetizing the lists. If we do not provide anything of value for the readers, what is the point?

    Well if you have traffic on the classfied site offer promotion to people .For example you let them to promote for free and if they want bigger packages etc your charge a fee

      We are working on reinstalling some of these options, and we hope to be able to offer partial payment in exchange for them opening the emails and using the offers there. We have however, had to restrict payment options due to other issues of concern.

      The challenge with the ad sites is just how many people routinely use the ad sites versus one time users. I am working on addressing some of that, focusing on Digital Nomads, Internet Marketers, business owners, and others who may be more reliable and routine clients.

      Since the email verification is necessary to get the free ads posted, it is easy to build the list. Not all of the people putting in ads will need repeat efforts or benefit from the discounts. It is a good start though, we hope anyhow.

    There are different ways to monetize your email list. Here are some of the best ways.

    Affiliate marketing- Sell someone else's products and service by sending email and getting a commission.

    Sell your stuff- You can always sell something, if you develop a quality product or service internally.

    Membership Program- You can ask for a paid membership to your audience.

    Solo Ads - With solo ads, people are paying you for sending promotional emails for them.

    Display ads-People are renting a spot in your email with display ads.

    than website link in signature. I put it this way, if that person not interested on the products who knows visit the website below. Yes also get traffic for personal website.

    Firstly you need to clean up the list. Then it depends on if you're actively emailing to the list already or is it just sitting there? If it's not being used, then I would start a campaign to send emails with useful info to the list to warm them up. Once this is underway then you can start to add in offers like the other replies to this threat suggest e.g. affiliate promo's. Give something before you take. Provide the list with value and then slowly include monetization options.
