Responsive Template Issues

I am in charge of the email marketing at my company and we are currently struggling with making our template mobile friendly. We use MailChimp and the generic MailChimp 1 column template. After I get the email campaign ready and before I send it to my list, I use a program called Email on Acid to test it out and see how it renders on different email clients on multiple devices.
Most of the time, after the Email on Acid test, we bust out our devices and see what it looks like. There is always a discrepancy between how MailChimp, Email on Acid and our devices say it looks. MailChimp and Email on Acid usually say that our email renders fine, but our devices say differently. As an example, Email on Acid will say that that on Android 4 it is responsive, but when I view the email using the Android email client on my phone, it is not responsive.
Have ever run into a problem like this and how did you solve it?
