Introducing Freemarket.com - Helping entrepreneurs buy and sell websites and domains

We've seen a lot of Warriors trying to sell their websites/domains while attracting high listing fees and minimum commissions from other marketplaces. We think that's just wrong!

"Their fees are ridiculous. This means if you have a small site that you want to sell for $100 then they get 20 percent." - Mike McAleer

"15% fee is crazy, that is more than tax!" - mrelk159

We decided to solve this problem and create an easy way for you to buy and sell websites and domains. I'm very excited to announce the launch of Freemarket.com. We created Freemarket.com to solve your pain! It's built by Warriors for Warriors.

Freemarket.com is the easiest and most affordable online marketplace to buy and sell websites or domains. It's 100% free to list your domain or website and we only take 5% commission when we find you a buyer.

We've created this Freemarket.com Discussion forum for discussion around buying and selling domains and established websites. I also want to introduce the Freemarket.com product manager, Jimmy Young to all of you. He's done an amazing job in getting Freemarket.com up. We'd love to hear your thoughts, suggestions and feedback on Freemarket.com.

Get ahead of your competition and list your website or domain with us today.

We've linked your Warrior Forum account with a Freemarket.com account. If you click on the link above you'll be automatically logged into Freemarket.com. You can press the reset password link on the Freemarket.com site in order to set your Freemarket.com password.

    Hey everyone!

My name's Jimmy and I'm the product manager for Freemarket.com. I'm very excited to bring this product to you guys. I've heard the constant complains on the forum about the high listing fees and minimum commissions on other marketplaces.

Freemarket is free to list and has the lowest commissions in the industry (and only when you get paid). I look forward to seeing you guys on Freemarket.com, and would love to hear your feedback and suggestions.

I guess I don't quite understand. I listed my timesharefun.com on Freemarket.com. After reviewing further it would appear after I paid for a highliter heading for $15 that at the end of 21 days or 30 days I would have to continue to list my website for $9.95 per month, is that right?

I have a few domains and sites I would like to list, not having yet gotten into buying and selling domains. I've been a little gun shy because of things I've heard about Flippa. I would like to try this service, but think I'll wait until many things are ironed out, there's a bit more activity, and I can change my username.

On the site I didn't like that when I clicked through to view a listing and then the back button to go back to the list, it brought me back to the top of page 1 and only showed 10 listings. I was viewing it at 100 listings on the page and would have like to come back to the page I was on when I clicked through, ie: page 3, not page 1.
Please PM me your email address so I can find your username for you. I have reported to your feedback to the engineering team, we will be moving fast to bring you the best experience!

I ask that as after being logged in here I followed the Freemarket link as per the notification email. Once in there it gives me an entirely different username seemingly made up from a few random letters.

Grateful for clarification on that please.
Please let me know your username so I can help you with it.

The $15 for a highlighted listing is a once off fee and it is free to relist. The $9.95 I believe is the free trial plus membership of Freelancer, which currently does not apply to Freemarket.

    Hello everyone

We're pretty excited to launch Freemarket today. One thing that was immediately obvious after we acquired Warrior Forum was how bad the existing solutions were for buying and selling domain names and websites on the Internet. I read post after post from Warriors complaining about how expensive and impractical it was to sell domains on other sites.

One Warrior complained that they listed a domain for $10 only to be charged a $19 minimum fee! They took his domain and charged him 9 for the privilege. Selling a $100 domain costs almost 20%! This is ridiculous, we thought- there has to be a better way.

So we took your feedback and worked around the clock to deliver freemarket.com - a domain and website marketplace for designed by Warriors, for Warriors.

With all your help we will make this the #1 site on the Internet for buying and selling Internet real estate - so give us your feedback!! Tell us what you want and we'll build it. Tell us also what you hate about current solutions as well and we will work with you to find a way to do it better.

    Regards
    Matt

Just a question. The traffic on freemarket is enough to sell fast a Website?

I just clicked on the sign up page. I don't like using my personal Facebook to sign into business related sites, so I scrolled down to sign up and there's a radial checkbox to check that says

    I am looking to:
    Hire Work

That needs to be changed. Bear in mind that a lot of users will be both buyers and selllers on a site like this.

Yeh that's a good point Suzanne. We'll be improving the flow of the signup.

Ok ... will do. Same with the bottom pink band that says

        15,481Users Online
        13,048,385Users

This is feeding from Freelancer, I assume and will be replaced with freemarket stats later?

              Hi Suzanne,

We've linked people's Warrior Forum accounts with Freemarket accounts and are in the process of cleaning them all up.

Visit this page and this should log you in provided you are logged in on Warrior Forum

Press reset password on Freemarket.com if you are unable to log in directly on the Freemarket.com site.

We're working on improving how this all works.

Ok ... using that link I didn't even get the login screen. It seems I may have already been logged in, but I didn't see a screen name anywhere, so not sure.

I like the design a lot. Will explore this more tomorrow and see what domains I have listed on Sedo that I can move.

If you click on the menu link on the top right it will pull out a menu with your account details. We're exploring how people are using the site and will be improving it as we get feedback.

We look forward to having your Sedo listings on Freemarket.com. Let us know if we can help with that process in anyway.

Ok ... checked that out and now I see that's an old freelancer account that I never really used ... I don't want that to be my user name. Welcome back news2011 .... any way to change that?

ADDED: In my account settings ... everything is specific to Freelancer ... all the email settings, finance settings, membership plan, etc. That will be confusing to people who are using Freemarket.com for selling and buying websites.

Yeah ... I realize that. My thoughts are that people from outside the WF who might sign up at freemarket are looking specifically and only for a place to buy and sell websites and domains and all that project chatter on all of the internal pages is pretty confusing because it is pretty obviously freelancer and project related rather than freemarket related. I think all that needs to be cleaned up and the focus on buying and selling websites and domain to be front and foremost in order to get all the buyers and sellers that currently use "another" platform to move. I know this is all still pre-release, but I'd work on that part pretty quickly as I thought it made the signup pretty confusing and I might have backed out (I would have backed out) if I weren't here discussing it as I signed up.

The project chatter that I'm talking about is in the Account Settings. These are obviously just cloned account setting pages from Freelancer with a lot of Freelancer related text. If you want to be the #1 Buying and Selling Websites sites, and I assume that you do, it needs to be a dedicated Buying and Selling Websites site, with that purpose only.

If I came across Freemarket on the Net and wanted to try it out, as someone who is very interested in Buying and Selling websites, all the Freelancer chatter would not only have been confusing to me upon trying to sign up, but it also would have been a turnoff.

I'm not a Freelancer and don't want to be one. So technically, I now have an account there that I didn't really want to have. I'm not going to make a big deal out of it, because I support your efforts at building this Freemarket site, but I still don't care to have a Freelancer account.

It's kind of like Google Plus. The only way that Google could get some people to sign up to their social network was force them by automatically signing them up if they used any other Google services. I now have a Google Plus account that I didn't want and don't use and being signed up automatically makes me dislike it more.

We're seeing in this thread the same kind of signup problem that I had ... a very old unused Freelancer account is getting in the way of signing up to Freemarket.

So, when I go into my account settings, it becomes very obvious that I'm now a member of Freelancer, whether I wanted to be or not. You should customize the account settings pages below to be specific to Freemarket if you want to attract and keep people who are Website/Domain buyers and sellers. Just my opinion.

                  Absolutely agree with above opinion.

If it's to become #1 buying and selling website - the sole focus should be that . No one should be forced with a freelancer login (as it is now) and other stuff related to freelancer.

A small fee of $5 - $7 should prohibit anyone to list bogus sites and domains. Also sellers should have the ability to reject/accept bids manually to keep off newbies and pranksters

        Hey

Love the idea of being able to sell sites at the price point you mention

I've logged in and updated some of my details, but the site has decided for some reason that my user name is: epfvvvuhfk instead of: Wayne Wymore and there does not seem to be an option to change that... Can you fix that for me?

You might want to add an option during signup to retain the username that you already have on the Warrior Forum or to select your own. The idea of being assigned some random string for our user name isn't very appealing.

        Thank you,
        Wayne

ps. Selecting "Buy Now" asks you if you are "sure" but if you click yes you are NOT taken to screen where you make payment. Did something happen? Who knows?
        *Definitely needs work

Also, when you are asked "Are you sure you want to buy it for (some weird characters) the amount you are paying should be shown in your local currency! The numbers shown did not match the "Buy Now" price shown on the main screen. (Which DID show it in $$'s)

I also think it's a good idea to have tabs for Established sites and Startup sites. In addition to websites and domains, you should probably have a category for Apps.

Need the ability to "Watch" a listing and to remove them from your watch list when ended.
Thanks for the feedback! Definitely functionality we want to have implemented soon.

I was actually praying for a new strong competitor to finally emerge and the next morning I woke up and saw the twitter feed annoucing Free Market. AWESOME !!!!!!

I know sellers who have been driven nearly insane by nonsensical and draconian responses from Flippa support.

I have had REALLY good experiences with Freelancer.com's customer service.

So I am truly excited and am happy to freely promote Freemarket every chance I get.

If you have an affiliate plan for the site, I'll be first in line.

I am looking forward to you guys blowing Flippa out of the water and becoming #1 quickly.

Since Freelancer.com has a top notch interface, I know you'll work out any kinks the site currently has.

What I would suggest is adding in every social media outlet you can to promote this new venture.

I know that Freelancer/WF brings a staggering amount of traffic compared to Flippa, but it doesn't hurt to WIN everyone away from Flippa.

Alaister, Jimmy ... all sorted out now. My listings now say ending in 6 days instead of already ended. So that's good. Now I just have the issue of Fliptown.com being listed as a draft, and then twice live in my dashboard. Need to remove the draft and one of the live ones.

What's curious is ... the draft one has a "verify" button beside it. None of the others do, nor did they throughout the listing process. Were they supposed to?

You're going to need a lot of listings that are great "deals" to make this work and get people interested in buying.

Right now on the site all I see are listings with high "Buy Now" prices. That won't attract a lot of buyers.

    You also need thumbnails.

You also need to make sure where a listing says "6 Days Ending" it does not show "Listing Closed" when clicked. That becomes a pain to click on listings you think are still active but are in fact ended.

The home page looks good, but the functions of the site are unappealing, imo. If I were a buyer coming in, I wouldn't stay long and I wouldn't come back.

I'm not knocking this, by the way. I want it to work just as much as anyone. I'm sick of Flippa. Just trying to point out some areas for improvement in my own way.

Mobile experience is clunky when it comes to filtering price range and revenue range etc.
The bar won't move so I can't filter domains for under 1000 etc..
Is there a portfolio option? I'm sure users have more than one and would would sell a lot at a discount?
do you have to deposit money to buy?
    Can you sell under reserve?
Do you have a valuation guide?
It looks great and much better than sedo.. Just trying to give feedback

      Hey Cjtitley,
Thanks for feedback. Let me talk to the engineering team about the filtering on mobile.

At the moment there's no portfolio option, but we're always looking to build what our users really find value in! I'm sure many people would find a portfolio option valuable.

If you win a bid, the buyer must deposit the full money before any transfer occurs.

We don't have a valuation guide yet, but we have appraisal listings in the pipeline!

I just checked out "Other Website Products and Services" and this is what I got.

Did you mean for that Freemarket stuff to be there? It says "Other Website Products and Services" and is a thriving marketplace in and of itself. As an advertiser there, I worry about the impact that this will have on our listings there. Freemarket should have it's own spot, don't you think?

      Hi Suzanne,

      Thank you for your screenshot

I know you weren't brining this up but the table sizing issue is due to your browser. We were able to replicate that on firefox. We have fixed that issue.

In regards to that table, we have decided to add that there in order to display the latest featured listings on Freemarket.com, being existing websites or domains for sale.

We have changed the name of the remaining forum to "Other Website Products & Services" as most of them are not existing websites for sale. A lot are PLR sites or offers to create sites for other Warriors.

Curious about your headline... Seems misleading.

"Helping Millions Of Entrepreneurs Like You Buy and Sell Websites"

...because when I scroll down I see "673 Websites & Domains" and it looks like this announcement came out, well, today.

Obviously we all 'get' the power of copy-writing and social proof, but we also get the perils and potential issues with false advertising...

Seems like you are missing an opportunity to lead by example with honest and ethical marketing and utilizing hype instead of fact.

They're probably afraid sellers will make a deal via PM. Flippa has PMs for buyers and sellers to clear up any questions, so they're not worried about it. PMs are essential to me. I won't clear a bidder to bid unless I can chat with him via PM first and people who wanted to bid on my listings have had questions that they wanted to ask me but didn't want to put in comments. To me, the comments/discussion board thing is completely useless and just prone to abuse. It's good that Flippa allows deletion of abusive comments, but a better solution is for potential buyers to ask their questions via pm. The listings should also have a "report listing" button so that people can report fraudulent or otherwise bad listings.

they don't have to re-invent the wheels. they have the Traffic and the people.
Copy what is working (Flippa & eBay) and add your own flavor.

without PM (private messages) and the ability to check the profile of the buyers and report some auctions or listings, i am not going to list any website here.
I want to delete one but i could not now......

Just set the price of it to $2M until you can delete it. No one will bid.

For me, I am unable to verify my phone number - it says, this number is associated with another account. I never created an account with Freemarket, or ever gave this number.

without verifying - I cannot list.
    =====================
Update: I got it now, while entering the number, I had to enter my country code too. The country code dropdown on the left is dummy!

Looks funny though - country code is twice!

i think that it should be requirement for anyone selling a domain to veriffy domain ownership by email to the domain registrant. and for website salle additional requirement would be to place an code to a website. Website can be hacked (i got my site hacked many times) to but hack a website and domain registrant mailbox at same time would be unprobable.. buyers then can buy with better confidence that the sale is not faked

Ok ... some feedback on features and how I use Flippa.

I like to click on the tabs to filter the results into recently just sold, ending soon, most active, just listed, and reserve met.

I also think it's a good idea to have tabs for Established sites and Startup sites. In addition to websites and domains, you should probably have a category for Apps.

Need the ability to "Watch" a listing and to remove them from your watch list when ended.

Sorry for multiple posts, I'm just posting as I think of the features that I use the most in this kind of site.
You need the ability to do custom searches, based on tags/keywords plus price, etc. and then be able to save those custom searches to perform them over and over. Maybe even to alert by email when listings meet those criteria.

ADDED: Probably a good idea to verify ownership of domains and websites with an uploaded file to the domain or site folder that Freemarket verifies is there.

For some reason, it listed one of my domains 3 times, 1 draft and 2 others. We need the ability to close auctions early if there aren't any bids that could win on them. I don't see that anywhere.

      Hi there

      Thanks for your feedback.

We do verify ownership either from a file or email to the whois address.

      Will check on that issue.

    Great news.

Competition is good for all of us, especially the consumer/user.

Already just today I see the first hint of lower fees with this email:

"Flippa's Domain Catalog Fees Have Been Reduced!"

I wish both platforms success...the competition will be healthy to encourage innovation and keep pricing in check.

One Warrior complained that they listed a domain for $10 only to be charged a $19 minimum fee! They took his domain and charged him 9 for the privilege. Selling a $100 domain costs almost 20%! This is ridiculous, we thought- there has to be a better way.
Bingo. I was on another site last week considering a sale and thought, this is ridiculous, and moved on.

I listed several domains. It didn't ask me to verify them. They listed as already closed, although in my dashboard they say they're live, but in the listings, it says they closed. One of them is listed twice in my dashboard, which I don't want.

The biggest issue I've always had with buying websites is separating the riff raff from real actual functioning sites. The term "established" is basically meaningless nowadays. I wish there was a section specifically for websites that have been around for a while, have legitimate traffic, and are actual real websites rather than websites with "potential".

I posted one domain. If you had a function to import via csv file, I may have uploaded 100 or more. If you want to get the people with big portfolios, that's a necessary function. Also, with domain only sales, the name really says a lot in many cases. Filling in the extra description fields may help them sell, but, again, for someone with a large amount of domains, they are just not going to bother.

Also, is the ability there to end an auction early? Especially before any bids? If I have a domain listed on freemarket and also on another site, if someone makes an offer on the other site, I'll want to end the auction early. If you get the import function working, it should also check to see if they all have the same whois email, and if they do, only need to verify once for all of them. Same goes for the phone number for the account... On my whois, I only list an answering machine number. Different than the one I gave to verify the account, so why verify it for each domain?

As mentioned above, some stats would also be helpful... inbound links, age of the domain, alexa rating, traffic, etc. could all be useful.

I may upload a few more as I have a number of domains that would be of special interest to warriors that I never got around to listing anywhere, but, I'd list a lot more if you get the import working and not needing the extra fields. Good luck with the new site!

Having free listings and lower commissions isn't necessarily a good thing. Might be good for small sites under $100 but for anything larger Flippa is where you will get more bids and serious buyers.

My question is, what will it bring different or do better than Flippa.com, is price the only justification?

Obviously, for the fact that Flippa is probably the only decent website marketplace that puts sellers in front of active Buyers, currently it's hard enough searching through Flippa for a decent opportunity, how do you propose now Buyers & Seller are split across two sites?

People generally, will only favor one site over another and most probably not use both unless they see a significant advantage or value to diverse their website sales.

Ultimately, Sellers will only list their websites on the marketplace (meaning Buyers & Sellers) that they'll see most return on, thus if the Seller did decide to list one of their sites across both Flippa.com & Freemarket.com, you might see a bit of Copy & Paste action going on, meaning duplicate content.

Now saying the above, if the Buyers are rummaging through both Flippa.com & Freemarket.com and seeing duplicate listings, is it a matter of selecting the cheapest sale transaction or the marketplace that has been around the longest and paying a higher fee for trust & experience.

This will be interesting, and best of luck to any business that takes on the giant Flippa.com.

Yes, I understand that however are your users all experienced within the Buy & Sell landscape? Of course, with the amount of users you guys have under your belt you could just about setup another country and have us all probably migrate, but do we all speak the same language?

The website "buy sell landscape" isn't rocket science. People on WF and Freelancer buy and sell daily. Flippa doesn't own the buyers. WF/Freelancer has the traffic to be the first of this kind of site to be a real competitor. Try having a site full of buyers if there's not much to buy. Flippa price gouging has alienated a lot of sellers.

If Freemarket avoids that kind of gouging and builds up some of these features that sellers need for their listings, we'll just see who "gets" the Buy/Sell Landscape.

The concept is excellent. It's very unlikely that it will last long unless you have e.g. a panel of reasonable domain experts to vet domain quality and asking price. There's way too much rubbish listed there for way too much dough - much like eBay.

Flippa has lasted quite a while with a miniscule audience compared to Freelancer/WF.
Domain value is in the eye of the beholder.
A search feature that works and a keen instinct for good names are your best bets.
Plus websites are a big focus of buying and selling.
Since it truly is a Free Market, it's up to the consumer to decide the value.

Flippa's commission used to be 5% until they got super greedy and bumped it to 10%.
And there are extras on Free Market for special features.
And it's not true that you get more bids and serious buyers on Flippa.
WF/Freelancer has INSANE exposure compared to Flippa.

Well actually, it's an accurate statement. A domain with no site attached is worth exactly what someone else is willing to pay for it. Nothing more, nothing less. It's up to the seller to find the buyers that might have an interest and some domains are more commercially marketable than others, but it all boils down to finding the right person to buy your domains.

Will there be a "Make An Offer" option? (I have my names listed at Sedo that way)

Maybe have an option to start/end at a certain time of day?

What about last second bidders? Is there something in place to extend auctions for bids placed at the last moment so other bidders have the option to outbid? (Very Important!)

Are we able to lower the reserve price during the auction? Add a "Buy It Now" price after an auction has already started?

Its a hassle to verify a phone number, first tried it using just the number and it said "The phone number entered is verified to another account, please try a different number". then tried adding the country code and it went through and send the verification.. When I got the code and enter it, its now saying "Phone number does not match verified number, please try again". I really can't understand.

Also, whats the use of two verification? Once the site is verified, isn't that already a proof that the owner is indeed legitimate?

its really a hassle! now my site is hanging out there on my listing, unverified!

Great start. but what about the Payment. i dont agree about holding funds until the buyer get the goods and what if he copies the files and then did not accept the sale.
I think you should have some feedback like eBay or Flippa and have the ability to suspend non paying buyers and non hoonest sellers as well to clean up the market.
But Holding the payment option will let a lot sellers to think twice before list their auctions (i am a super seller Flippa user and i talk based on my experience)
    Thanks

    Hi,
What a great idea, competition is always a good thing especially if you can keep the fees competitive with certain other sites.
As someone that sells many sites a year i will certainly be giving this a test run.
A suggestion for you (if you haven't already) would be to add the ability to search listings by popularity- eg number of bids and price high to low. Most vendors and buyers I know use this option loads.

    Good luck with this,

      • the Ability for the seller to see how many views, how many watchers inside his account : Screenshot by Lightshot

There was a bug which made some of the listings duplicate. Its now been fixed and your listings should be all good. Thanks for your support!

Thanks for your awesome suggestions! We are working hard on getting the stats and ending early functionalities on board. And we have plans for the bulk importing feature too. Stay tuned! We're moving fast to get them to our user.

      Here's the process. http://domainingdiva.com/transfer.pdf

The "Plus Membership" is a freelancer thing and doesn't apply (that I know of) to Freemarket.com. They need to clean up the pages that have freelancer related text on them.

If you really want to provide additional value, consider doing a daily or weekly email featuring the premium domains.

The problem with most domain listing service isn't the fees, it's that there ithere is no outreach. I only know what domains are for sale if I go looking for them. If I got an email with some good ones, I may see something I could use and pick it up even though I wasn't actively looking for domains to buy that week.

This is a good idea, and I hope it goes well.

That said, I would spend A LOT (... I mean A LOT) of time on trying to put checks into the system to keep people from being ripped off. If someone says their site gets X-amount of traffic or income, they should be forced to prove it.

Lower costs are great, but lower costs can also bring in the scammiest of scammers. If you get a reputation as being a low-rent scam heap, it won't go well for anyone (except the scammers, of course).

Nice and clean design, but I would like to sort based on domain age and I couldn't find this option. Also, I scanned through some websites that are, for instance, established April 2014, claim huge income, give no real data and to me look like moronic entries. I think for freemarket to really succeed, it is important to weed out the domains which are put there by people who think we are all crazy here and buy domains which are just established for an arm and a leg. For me after running into a few of those (again, I couldn't select on domain age somehow) I stopped looking into it. Hope you can do something with that feedback. If freemarket becomes littered up with domains like that, you will have a hard time keeping my attention. For the rest, I think it is a great idea you are working on and that's also why I took the time to let you know the above.

No difference at all in many listings on Flippa. Due diligence is always the buyer's responsibility. It's a marketplace and like any marketplace, don't buy if there isn't verifiable stats and verifiable income, etc.

I checked out the site and it signed me up with a username it says belongs to Freelancer, but I don't think I've ever had a freelancer account and I don't know the username. It isn't one I had ever created. Don't like this.

If my Warrior Forum account has been linked to a Freemarket account should the usernames not be the same?

I ask that as after being logged in here I followed the Freemarket link as per the notification email. Once in there it gives me an entirely different username seemingly made up from a few random letters.

Grateful for clarification on that please.

    Ohh boy .. what a mess ...

So it says they will hold the Buyer's payments until you transfer the domain. But who is monitoring that happens? I ask this cause ... Freelancer.com really threw me under a barrel when the Buyer disappeared on a $700+ project and stuck ME - THE CODER .. with the %10 fee .. even after countless emails back and forth with "Customer Service" the balance remains .. and now is also on the freemarket "balance" - I refuse to pay on principal.

Now, if this happens on Freemarket, there would be NO way to recoupe the site if you transfer ownership of the Domain to another account. This is the problem with these domain selling sites, and I imagine more so with freemarket because there are lower fees, I assume that there will be less "service". A 3rd party should manage the entire transaction, this site just feels like you are trying to earn a quick buck, just like freelancer taking over RAC (RIP) ... again less service - MUCH less.

As a long time freelancer from RAC I would never get work from freelancer.com again, and I feel very apprehensive on using freemarket.

Warrior/Freelancer should be concentrating more on customer service, than creating more headaches for everyone on our dime. I would rather pay the $19 and get the service than use a site that was hacked together and released too early with no redeeming features.

The way the domains and website listings are now is backwards. When you go to the marketplace, listings with 20 days left that are not featured are listed first and on the last page of the listings, listings that are ending NOW are listed. It should be just the opposite or listings are going to expire before anyone ever sees them. At this point, I'm not paying the $15 to feature my domains, since the lure was free listings, but shouldn't listings that are ending sooner be listed above listings that have 20 days? This way, many listings will get little to no exposure at all before they expire.

This is really something...I go and signup for the site and post one of my premium domains and I go back later in the day and my account is closed. I get on a chat with someone who obviously has English as a 3rd language who tells me that he has no idea why that happened and I will have to put a ticket in...yet I go to the page where the domain is listed and it is still up. I have no idea what is up, but this is not a good start if you ask me.

I want to add some suggestions please (I am really very ... , i think you have the skills and expertise to copy something like Flippa or eBay market here in Freemarket.com):

1-Have the Ability to end the auction at any time. i want to end my listing but i did not find any button.
2-Have the ability to accept or reject the bid manaully (Flippa did that after getting many complaint from sellers that some newbies bid on auctions and disappear after that. after they implement that option, i got 0 complains from my buyers)
3-We have to format our sales copy to look good and understandable (Right now, the copy looks like notepad editor, there are no font, no url links button no attachment nothing). At least when we post WSO, we have that option.
4-Have the ability to check the profile of the buyer or seller (First name, country, date registration not from Freelancer but from Freemarket.com) so i can feel comfortable with him before pushing the site to him and make sure he will not do a chargeback .(i am talking from experience about point 4)
5-Make the home page design looks good.
6-Charge People $5 as a start to have only serious sellers/buyers otherwise you will have a flood of non sense websites and domains sitting there for years.
7-There is no contact page or support link

Last question : how to end my listing now, please help.

    Thanks

      Thanks
Thanks for the suggestions! These are all the issues we have put on high priority.

PMs are pretty important IMO. I've had many presale questions sent to me on Flippa, questions that the buyer doesn't want to put in the public comments. Some buyers want to remain anonymous to other potential buyers and some just don't want to ask the questions publicly.

In addition to all the previous suggestions, you also need the ability to upload attachments to the listings. They are critical in selling sites that have real stats and income to report.

I mentioned this before, but you're going to get a lot of junk and spam listings. You need a report button on the listings so users can help with keeping the listings clean.

Not really - what's more important is that the public comments go away. You're a few days into launch and already they're being used by spammers to advertise their domains on other people's listings. Next, you'll have people posting opinions on whether a domain is worth the asking price or not. All discussion should be private between potential buyer and seller, not for public view.

Either make the comments private (so only the domain owner and commenter can see them) or just disable them entirely, they serve no good purpose. There is no positive aspect to public comments what so ever.

Flippa has the ability for the seller to delete comments on their listings. This should be no different. Having to wait for Freelancer to moderate comments when a competitor is trying to sabotage your listing or spam it isn't going to work.

I too am very excited about this service and just posted a site for sell.

A couple of things right off the bat.

First - there is no way that I could find to format the description of the auction. No paragraphs, line breaks or anything, so the entire description looks like one long run-on paragraph. This makes it awful to read the descriptions. Or maybe I just couldn't figure out how to format it properly.

Second - this was mentioned earlier, but the default sorting (after premium listings) is by longest amount of time left on the auction. This means that those auctions with less than 20-day timeframes will never roll to the front page. Sorting it by ending soonest would make much more sense.

        Thanks again for this service!

    This is WONDERFUL!
What's super funny is that Flippa is flipping out and worried about losing business because they just slightly lowered their fees. Not that it matters because they are completely outrageous and I have been waiting for a new marketplace where I can sell sites and domains. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to visit yet but you better believe that I will be listing several sites this weekend. I'm glad that you guys did this!

I really, really, REALLY want Freemarket to explode. Be top of the world.
But time is of the essence that it displays itself as well as Flippa does.
It shouldn't be that hard since freelancer.com has access to amazing database designers and graphics people !!!!!!

    Highlights currently for FreeMarket
    1. Much lower fees than Flippa
    2. Your huge number of viewers
    3. The fact that you control payment and offer many forms of payout. That is fabulous !

    Lowlights
    1. The listing display should include html or tiny mce to flesh out listings, make thumbnail of listing screenshot bigger.
    2. Stats need to show links to some sort of verification. And autostats need to link to resources to do more due diligence.
    3. PM feature is a huge immediate concern
    4. Allow users to create more fleshed out info about themselves
    5. Keep freelancer.com separate from Freemarket for endusers who are buyers.
6.For Welcome page on Freemarket, make search for buyers more prominent.
    7. Tout how secure the transactionw ill be for buyer.

And to the poohats at Flippa scouring this thread, your anemic attempts at 'lowering success fees' is pathetic.
You have only lowered fees for the lowest hanging fruit, cheap sites that are 100 dollars of less.

I'm unable to change my password on Freemarket.com because I don't know the old one. It isn't the same as my WarriorForum password. It accepted my email on the login page with a blank password but doesn't accept a blank password for the current password field when trying to set a new password.

The homepage does seem a little backwards ... the domains ending the soonest should be the ones featured most prominently. The stuff that's 20 days away from ending is front and center while the auctions that end in 10 minutes are buried 30 pages deep?

Then if you click the "Ending" column to re-sort (which most people won't), you see a list of CLOSED auctions? Why bother showing them if they already ended? Come on, guys...

Regretting that I paid $30 for featured at this point.

Also still haven't seen anything done about the comment spam.

I've got a website/domain that I would like to sell.

The website is not much and produces no revenue, and the domain name is pretty good.

Would I be better off listing the domain name for sell, or just go ahead and list it as a website?

Would I be better off listing the domain name for sell, or just go ahead and list it as a website?

Thanks, and I hope this is the right place to ask.

      Vic
Freelancer may have a different idea, but personally I would list it both ways... one as a domain only, and one as a website. Some buyers are looking for a complete site, other buyers are looking for only a domain - if your site is a "domain + site" they'll tell you they don't need the website and want to pay less than you're asking since they only want the domain.

    Hey there.

I have a handful of trafficked domains. Can anyone recommend a good Domain Broker they have done business with? I have reached out to some companies which have showed great interest.

One major US beauty brand has purchased the .com version of a domain I have.

Appreciate the feedback to a good broker.

Alaister - These listings should not be allowed. They don't come with the domain. They are using subdomains as sample sites for a customization job of a startup site. This should be in other Website Services.

Unfortunately, nobody pays much attention to many of the reports in the WSO section so I am not so sure a report button will do much good at this time. Sure the spam reports and other easy stuff are dealt with, but a lot of the more serious stuff is being ignored. I have reported a user (or a shill for the banned user) that has been banned at least 3 times from WF (this user actually sold a WF user email address scraper) and nothing has been done. I provided the proof and I also contacted Paul Myers, who also knows the story of this user, and he reported the banned user as well but this user still has 2 WSO's open.

I also reported a WSO that boldly advertises pirated material on the sales page, I contacted the owner of the material who also reported the WSO, and that WSO remains open as well.

I have reported several sellers for selling products in the WSO section for the exact same price as they offer on their websites and those WSOs also remain open.

In the past the banned users would have been re-banned and the WSOs closed. The user that advertises stolen material on his ad copy would have been dealt with, and the many users selling regular priced material in the WSO section would have had their sales pages moved to the classifieds.

Obviously Freelancer needs to hire more folks and/or get some volunteers that will have the power to deal with the reports --> because at this time they are not dealing with reports anywhere near as effectively as the crew Allen had doing it was.

Too much emphasis on making more money and not enough emphasis on care and quality control, me thinks.

      Cheers

REALLY glad to see this. I refuse to list domains on Flippa because of their fees, and I have a number of sites and domains to sell.

I was just going through the site and there are so many incredibly priced domains and sites, it's a joke... anywhere from tens of thousands of dollars to over $1 million. It would really be nice if you could get some reasonably priced listings there. Since people don't have to pay anything they just price their listings out of sight.

Maybe charge a small fee for a listing over, $500 or $1,000? Even $5 (nonrefundable) fee could keep some of those jokers from listing. And the higher the website listing goes, the higher the nonrefundable fee goes. Anyone who really thinks their website is worth $5,000 shouldn't mind making an investment to sell it

If a lot of crap websites are posted for sale, it might make it difficult for buyers to search for decent websites to buy, which in turn will make it difficult for sellers of decent websites to sell theirs.

    Just a suggestion.

    1) About the Search:

Searches are case sensitive. When I listed two domains for sale, I used caps at the beginning of the words in the domain names, e.g. AfterWorkAtHome.com and InternetHomeBusinessGuide.com. A search using the caps at the beginning of the words in the domain names returns the listings for the domain.

However, when no-caps are inputted at the beginning of the words in the domain names, the search returns no results, e.g. afterworkathome.com and internethomebusinessguide.com

That means a potential buyer for a domain must search using caps at the beginning of the words. Otherwise, the listing will not be returned.

    Suggestion:

    1) Force the search function to return all results, e.g. with or without caps.

    Thanks for your time,
    Jeffery 100% :-)

Then if you click the "Ending" column to re-sort (which most people won't), you see a list of CLOSED auctions? Why bother showing them if they already ended? Come on, guys...

Regretting that I paid $30 for featured at this point.

Also still haven't seen anything done about the comment spam.
We will be removing those spam and polish up the commenting system. We are also looking to improve the ordering of the front page listings. Some of our functionalities are not perfect at the moment but it won't be long!

Either make the comments private (so only the domain owner and commenter can see them) or just disable them entirely, they serve no good purpose. There is no positive aspect to public comments what so ever.
Thanks for the insight! We will consider redesigning the comment system to bring you the best experience.

There are a few things I'd like to see...

Have a 'listings sold' category. Even though you have an 'ended' category, it's hard to find any listings that have actually sold because the sellers have listed them so ridiculously high.

Don't know if this can be done, but it would be really nice to see a domain category for the more common domains - like .com, .net, etc. Seems like the majority of domains being sold are the new extensions and I wouldn't give a buck for the majority of them.

.com's will always be king, it's just difficult to find these listings.

Unfortunately, the search function is not optimal for buyers and sellers, because a buyer can not conduct a search using a keyword. Listings are not easy to find at all. I'm sorry, but if people cannot find what they are interested in paying for then as a seller I will never sell to those people.

BTW, my Username was never changed, so the unified login concept must be delayed?

      Hi,

Congratulations on coming up with a potential winner of a marketplace!

      Just a couple of things.

While logged in to the WarriorForum, I clicked on the link you provided and was taken to Freemarket.com. However, I am not logged in there automatically. There is a link to the top right that says Login or Sign up.

I clicked on the Login link and entered by WarriorForum credentials. But I got a message back saying:
"Oops! The login details you entered were incorrect."

I tried a couple of times to get in.

So it seems the WF login credentials are not working on Freemarket.com.

Do I need to sign up separately for Freemarket.com?

Also, is there a page somewhere that explains:
      1. Terms and conditions
      2. The process for buying / selling a site
      3. Payment options / process

Will you be collecting money from the buyer in an escrow-like arrangement and then paying the seller via Paypal / wire transfer once the sale process is completed? What about non-US sellers like me?

Apologies if these questions have already been answered in this thread!

      Look forward to your response!

It's still completely ridiculous that the featured domains ending SOONEST aren't showing on the homepage. That's when a person is most likely to bid, and they can't even see them.

Agreed - I also see now that when we sort by "ENDING" that live auctions aren't even shown first. Instead we see "Offers only" listings first (Over 1700 at this moment ahead of auctions just about to end). This is something that needs to be resolved ASAP.

    So my auction ended...

No notification by email that it ended.
No notification that someone had hit the buy it now PRIOR to it ending.
I only saw it because I went to the page and looked.
I accepted the buyitnow, still no notifications as to whether the buyer has paid or not.

You would think this kind of stuff had been worked out already.

To add to this, the "buyer" commented that he didn't actually hit the buy it now, he was just trying to bid to my reserve (about half of the buy it now price). I have no way of contacting him other than posting comments on the listing. When I try to visit a user with the same name on freelancer.com it says the account is closed.

Not only should freemarket.com not have been launched, it doesn't even qualify as BETA ... this is an alpha release at best. Send me my $45 back, what a waste. The "premium" spot was off the page after the first day, what good is a highlight if no one can see the listing anyway, and the high bidder's bid wasn't registered except as a buy it now at twice the price he intended? Jeez...

There is a long discussion about Freemarket on NamePros, as well.

        Over there, gatekeeper72 asked you:
Good to know, and keep in mind about...Did you try to contact Freemarket, and tell them about this issue? If so, what did they have to say about it? I would really be interested in knowing...Anyhow, Thanks for sharing!

I am so disappointed, sad really, to see that nothing has been upgraded.

The listing pages don't link to stats, don't have any sort of html formatting, no private message function.

And the front page still seems to be appealing to sellers to list, not buyers to buy.

Please don't call it a rockstar of a platform when it's barely useable.

This is such a BIG chance for Freelancer and sellers to make bank, but it's being blown without CRITICAL updates being implemented.

  • ATTENTION JIMMY:
    Jimmy,

I've paid for a boosting on the website freemarket, but I am having issues with the following:
    1. Logging in, I tried to get in contact with freelancer who I am not joined with (never intend to) to change e-mail address and they are no help. As I think I may have signed up with the wrong email which is not mine. But as your system has no verification for email I am cannot check/login. The email I think that may have been used is djhacker@live.com but should have been djhacker000@live.com.
    2. I cannot add a BIN price (NOT WORKING), so basically that is pointless. The feature is not working on your website.
    3. Ultimately I would like a refund for both payments processed for boosting as I don't believe your website is working as intended and described and you have no support or contact details on your website, other than your e-mail which you don't reply, nor will I even be able to sell the website because I can't even log in, so it's utterly pointless.

Also you should do something about adding some support phones and things as your other company Freelancer have no idea what I am talking about when I mention FreeMarket.com.

Please just give me a refund and I'll consider listing my websites when your site works properly otherwise I'm going to make a conscious decision to never use FreeMarket.com again.

    My listing is this one:
    https://www.freemarket.com/sites/view.php?id=7144

I look forward to your reply and refund, otherwise I'll issue a charge back through PayPal.

The fact that no one returns my contact really gets under my skin, like I'm just a number. I expected better than this.

I see someone placed a bid on one of my auctions 25 days ago- but I can't see the bid. It would be nice to be able to see what it was. I'm assuming that this is because it was below the reserve? Also is there a way to set up email alerts?

Without an email message I don't know to respond. Without a link I can't respond. How do I start a negotiation with someone if I can't click on the bid and see it?

If the bid was placed when your auction was live, you would be able to see the amount of the bid but not the user. And yes if you received bids but your auction didn't sell, then the bid didn't meet your reserve price. Your listing should now be accepting offers so if the buyer wants to make you an offer they can.

Regarding the email alerts/messages - I agree these are important things to have and we are working to implement them.

It is still listed for sale but I used the wrong term - not an auction and no I was not able to see the amount of the bid. Somehow I should be able to click on it and send them a message even if I can't see their name.

Flippa support is incredibly snide and freemarket support has shown itself to be very helpful.

SOLD ITEMS: There needs to be a way to see items that have already sold on FREEMARKET. When we see this, it is a testament that your site is getting the job done in reaching BUYERS.
      Yes, definitely.

      Plus
Homepage NEEDS to be changed. the wording ONLY is appealing to sellers.
It's not speaking to potential customers.

So, how do you remove a closed listing from freemarket? I don't want future potential customers to see an auction for the domain that failed to get a single bid.

Also, is there an email address attached to the site? A business that claims to be 'a rockstar platform' should have a dang email contact, along with an about page that states who they are, where they are located, and why we should trust them.

Suggesting that freemarket is helping 'millions of entrepreneurs' is misrepresenting the site a wee bit, it is kind of like McDonalds, on their first restaurant decades ago posting "Billions Served" on their sign before they even became a chain.

Still waiting for an answer, Stefan.

I went ahead and relisted the domain for $500,000,000, since I no longer wanted it to show up as a $500 buy it now domain with no bids. The reserve is set for a paltry $250,000,005 so it will probably sell quick.

I have listed HeyLeads.com for sale and this was my first time experience.

FREEMARKET vs. FREELANCER ACCOUNT: I missed the message about how my WF account was already setup. This caused a conflict with my new account.

FREE LISTINGS: Although it says your listings are free, when it verified my PayPal account, it automatically upgraded my Freelancer account and subscribed me to a monthly fee (I'll have to check but I think it was $9.99 or something in that area).

So, not only did I end up with a Freelancer account, I now have to go in to my Paypal account and cancel it. How I ended up at Freelancer.com while verifying a payment method I do not know but this needs to be cleaned up.

UPGRADES: Until you can start sending BUYING traffic, maybe these amount should be adjusted. If I am going to pay $30 for a featured listing, I need to know that BUYER traffic is already their shopping. At this stage, looking at what is currently available for sale vs. bids, I am just not seeing it.

SOLD ITEMS: There needs to be a way to see items that have already sold on FREEMARKET. When we see this, it is a testament that your site is getting the job done in reaching BUYERS.

I know this is still very new and will take some time to work out and hopefully it will continue and find it's place in the website and domain niche and I hope this feedback helps.

    All the best, Leah

HELP and CONTACT: Where is the help and/or Contact section on Freemarket?

Too many people having to come in here and on other forums just to ask for help with their account - this is BIG issue that needs to be resolved like, before it launched.

Even back in the days when SitePoint introduced Flippa there was separate contact and help for their new marketplace.

I don't mean to be critical here but this is such a basic need that I am in awe that it is simply either not available or hidden in plain sight?

      Hey Leah,

I apologize for the bad experience you've had. I've tried to answer your points inline below:

      * I have no way to delete my listing?
--- If your listing is no longer on offer as an auction, you can remove it from the main listings page (select Remove Listing). If you are still having trouble and want me to remove your listing, please send me your request via PM.

      * I was forced to a subscription payment for Freelancer.com when I don't want or need anything from Freelancer.com
      * I had to spend the time to go in and manually cancel that subscription to Freelancer.com
--- You may have received a welcome email from Freelancer, however you never get signed up to a paying subscription unless you opt in. If you mistakenly opt'd in to this and wish to cancel, please let me know and I can assist you further.

What if someone was not serious in buying a domain and just wasting time, will you return the listing back with it's paid features? Because it's not the fault of the domain owner.
How you can verify the serious buyer and time waster?

When i first heard about freemarket i got exicted and then when i saw the listings very disapointed, theres nothing there that has any value to a buyer.

I make websites for businesses in my home contry and when a customer comes along and we agree to work together on that project i get a small starter fee to get things moving in terms of content, to realy sell my websites i need great content for the site that relate to what my customer is working with that comes from stock photo sites and photos the customer provides to me, so why not provide sellers with images and demo text and im not talking about lorem ipsum demo text but something we can reuse for the purpose of showing a buyer how it can look and if the website is bought then the buyer can purchas the content them selfs and create the text for the newly bought website.

My point is freemarket is attracting the wrong kind of business we should be focusing on real business like a local autorepair shop or local market, and make the sites so they can customize it with their own images and text, freemarket is attracting buyers that are looking for complete websites that dosent need any changes and can be profitable from day one, we should attract buyers that is more professional and are looking for something that will fit their needs.

  • After 3 weeks of arguments I finally managed to get a refund from FreeMarket.com. Although I can tell you I will never list a website on FreeMarket.com again due to the lack of attention and support.

My overall opinion is that Freemarket.com have released a MVP and letting users like me and you become the puppet users who guinea pig test their website. Hell, no. I ain't doing your dirty work.

For me I've never used Freelancer.com and I can't believe they've made me sign up on that crap website in order to get a refund. Legally, in Australia they have made me withdraw money from Freelancer into a bank account instead of issuing a refund as per my request. This is not correct and against Australia taxation best practice. Never again for me. I promise.

Well, checked this morning and my expired auction was removed, so that is good. I am going to wait for a good 6 months to a year then look at the platform again, to see if the issues mentioned in this thread have been addressed.

Not beating a dead horse, but the thing that WF needs to understand is that my experience with this product will have a bleedover effect on other products that I had been looking at. There were a couple of marketing tools/programs being marketed to my email from wf that I was going to try out, but I have to question just how polished and accurate those items are going to be; if freemarket.com was being promoted as selling opportunities for millions of marketers/domainers, is the usefulness of other products being exaggerated? That's my thought process, and I guess the net result is that I will play it even more conservatively than before when talking about products being sold or promoted here.

The support team in the freemarket.com is not responding to me.
Guys in the support team, I have issues with my listing. I had sent yo pm's and wrote in this forum, but seems very difficult get back to your sellers. Also, you couldn't keep your promise when you said you would re-list my domain after these 14 LONG days period, when somebody didn't pay after hitting "buy it now". The doors are still open for anybody who want to play and waste time, as no strict conditions to identify those who are serious from those with childish behaviors.
Now, I'm requesting either a full refund for my wasted $45, or at least, re-list my domain with full features.

I gather that freemarket has been abandoned since there hasn't been any updates from support on here in over 10 days.

    Hi,
    A few things:
Just as "Csine" stated: I have never created an account there before and it is saying my phone number is associated with another account...???
    Any Help on that?
    Also.
I have a question and the support is not responding, and everything I am looking in to is giving me mixed results.
Can I list my domain on http://www.FreeMarket.com even though I am listing is for sale on
    Webitworks.com - Domain and Website Solutions and http://www.Flippa.com ???

Freemarket is free to list and has the lowest commissions in the industry (and only when you get paid).

The free listing thing is a lot better, compared to Flippa's fees to be honest.

There needs to be a way to display imported Analytics and Adsense data, as well as a way to show on the homepage which has verified analytics and which has verified adsense.

Also, I should be able to filter out the ones that don't.

@websiteflipper - that's not true at all. We've had very few scam problems with the site, and have resolved the ones we have had to the satisfaction of the users involved.
