What is a good enough incentive for a referral program?

Hey guys!

What would you consider as a good enough incentive for a referral program? We are currently offering a free month for every successful referral. Love to hear thoughts!

You can do a tier referral program. Something like: 40% in commissions for direct referrals, 20% for secondary referrals, 10% (or less) for all other referrals.

Honestly, I'd never refer anyone to something if that program just offered one free month. Just not enough incentive for me.

I would give them a % of the money you receive from the referral, similar to hostgator who give 50$ for every referral.

The strategy used by Dropbox was good.

The more referrals, the bigger the incentive. 250MB additional storage for every referral.

I think money is the best incentive. Sure, offering a freebie is ok too, but you'll get much better results if you offer some cash as a "reward".
