Hi,

I know of 1SC but thought to hear what warriors
have to say - what you use and your experiences,
good and bad.

So what´s the shopping cart you recommend and why?

That question is like asking "what's the best car"!

You need to know what you want from a shopping cart and what your budget is and then you can find the best one to fit your needs.

I use a paypal shopping cart on a couple of small sites and Zen cart on others. These were chosen because they met my budget and had the features I needed. The first were simple to install. The second met my requirements for digital downloads, security and robustness.

I would suggest you work out what you want from a shopping cart and how much you want to spend on it and then look at the different carts and find one which meets your needs.

    All the best

    Jason

    Hi Paolo,

I am also looking for a good and easy shoppingcart (and of course cheap - if possible).
I checked out a couple so far, like 1shopping cart, infusionsoft, zen cart..., but I don't know, they look very complex...

Did you find already a good solution for your business?

    Best regards,
    Michael

Yeah, and their autoresponder is truly awful. 70-90% of all my leads got stuck on "unconfirmed" because their system is inept at sending out emails (which is kinda what it is supposed to do).

I'm sure that's not the case for everyone, else they wouldn't get such a good reputation...but that's my experience. (Plus their cart has terrible abandonment rates, despite trying every trick in the book to salvage customers that were ready to pay).

So, I am looking for a shopping cart and automatic email responder too; obviously I am NOT going to buy 1shopping cart.
This is incorrect, they can separate their autoresponders by prospects and customers and it is incredibly easy.

I see someone mentioned amember... didn't really think of that as a shopping cart, but I guess so. I use it too... so funny that I didn't think of it in those terms.

The best shopping cart I ever used was in a Publix store in Florida.

It was brand spanking new and I don't even think it had ever even had a tin of beans in it before.

It cornered real well and the ride was smooth and go through checkout was a breeze.

The Walmart shopping carts are not a patch on them!

    Sam

P.S. Use magento or ubercart (drupal)

Another suggestion would be Prestashop. Free, open source, really quick and easy to get up and running without a huge amount of modification (although there's plenty of mods you can do if you want!). Some nice inbuilt features, and fairly lightweight. I'm pretty sure you can use it for downloads as well as physical products.

Third vote for aMember, I use it for digital and physical goods.

Although not for the weak of stomach from a set up and care and feeding perspective, Magento is another offering in the shopping cart market that is gaining serious following.

Finding the right shopping cart software for your ecommerce site may not be a high priority for you, but it should be. A bad experience for your potential customer means a lost sale for your business. Finding the best shopping cart for your site can be a tedious research task but it''s important.

I notice a few people have mentioned using open source shopping carts, what would be the disadvantages (if any) of them, is there any charge at all with open source shopping carts?

Contrary to what a few warriors posted, 1ShoppingCart is by far one of the easiest, most intuitive and feature rich carts out there. I know this because I've personally used all of the "big name" carts.

Having everything integrated into a single platform (product & order management, autoresponders, digital delivery, affiliate program, cart analytics, recurring charges etc.) is one of the better qualities of 1ShoppingCart.

UltraCart is another good one but it's definitely for the more advanced user. It has a lot of great features and it's highly customizable. The support is great too. If you know your way around configuration screens I'd encourage you to check it out.

I've also heard some really good things about Nanacast. I haven't used it myself so I'll have to stop short of recommending it personally but fellow warrior Josh Anderson might be able to chime in and tell you a thing or two about it.

Perhaps somebody can name their top three carts.

I am also very interested in a easy all inclusive shopping cart

@Kenster: There is quite a range depending on what your needs are and what your budget is. I tend to like to have a bit more control than a hosted solution provides, so you'll find my list only has self-hosted solutions.

The ones I find myself implementing more often than not are (in the order of frequency):

    aMember
($179) - When you need a solid digital delivery, content protection, 3rd party single signon solution. It has a broad range of 3rd party application support, payment providers. It also has affiliate management and newsletter management.

Magento (open source) - A growing open source solution that provides most things you would expect from a shopping cart and more. Supports multiple storefronts from a single installation, very modern designs (even an iPhone theme is available for free).

CS-Cart ($265) - A cart that I have recently started implementing (and really enjoying).. It has all of the features you would expect and just feels light and easy to implement and use.

If you know code then oscommerce seems to be the best. I started using it mostly because it's free. I'm not too HTML savvy so I let it go because my progress was slow going.

I switched to 3dcart and I've pretty much been able to do anything I've wanted with it thus far! AND I'm learning HTML with it as I go along. It's very flexible. It allows for HTML editing as well as WYSIWYG.

    Good luck!

I use OsCommerce as it can easily be customized, and has many modules you can use. The one big problem that I do see with OSC is that you need a programmer on hand if the modules don't install quite right the first time through. Other than that it works great!
