Is the Chamber of Commerce a good way to find a business mentor?

I'm looking to connect with a business mentor in the real world. I've tried meetup.com and similar sites and there are not many groups in the area that would be applicable.


I'm wondering if the Chamber of Commerce for the area would be a good idea. I am totally open to other suggestions as well.

    Try SCORE, it's a non-profit that has business owners/mentors all over the US. Most large cities should have a local offline office. Here's the search page for email based business mentors.

    In a previous line of business, I worked with a few different chambers in different counties. They are as unique as their membership. One in particular I worked with was awesome. Truly an asset to local business owners. Others I worked with were a waste of time. Basically all they did was membership drives / free breakfasts.

    So to answer your question, it really depends on what the Chamber of Commerce is like in your area. Wouldn't hurt to check them out though.

    Thanks for the reply. It is interesting to hear that they are all fairly different.


    A business owner in one of the municipalities around me had said that it was basically useless. Someone else seem to think fairly high of a different chamber. I guess you're right. You'll me know if you try.
