Problems With Hostgator

The fall of Hostgator was foreseen at the moment when EIG bought them. A few years ago they shut down my websites for the same reasons, but I could have accessed my Cpanel. You can't now? That seems totally wrong.

I moved with Namecheap and I am happy with them. I suggest to talk with their CS and see if they can help you out with the transition.

Yes they totally suck, I use them for 8+ years and they used to be good but now they are the worst! I wanted to change hosting for years but I always postponed it cause of the hassle. It seems that I made a big mistake that I kept paying them all these years.

Anyway, I have access to cpanel but not to the databases so I don't really know if there is anything I could do to transfer my sites to another hosting without them giving me access. If someone knows I would be really grateful...

I'm singin the same tune as others, I had Hostgator hosting for several years then decided to leave as I found they didn't provide the service they once did. Regarding the database issues, consider in the future using using a static site generator like Hexo for your blog, this way there is a lot less to go wrong. There is no database. Also, you can host it for free using Github and Netlify, even WITH a custom domain name. So we're talking $10/yr to maintain a blog with custom domain name and HTTPS. Did I mention Hexo blog pages load in less than 1-2 seconds out of the box?

You need to talk to HG support - calmly and with facts in hand. They have told you what the problem is - and provided potential solutions.

What you will get here are the same anti-HG stories - won't help and this is not a complaint forum. You need to solve YOUR problem.

There is nothing to 'report' - there are limits on the amount of shared hosting resources you can use before you need to upgrade your acct. That's shared hosting - not just HG. Work through the problem.

Do you have backups of your sites? If not - you need to get on the phone to HG - be reasonable rather than demanding - and figure out how to access your sites so you can make a backup.

Too often, people get angry and start demanding and threatening 'action' and it's not helpful. Ask for help finding a solution instead.

Do you have access to your domains so you can redirect the DNS to a different host? If the domains are located on Hostgator - that's another reason you need to TALK to them to gain access to your acct.

Upgrade > regain access > move > cancel > problem solved.

Based on my experience with hostgator i never had problems with their service
like any other service they have good and bad days i think, lets be reasonable about it dont you think?

That's not the way to do it - you haven't given them time to answer but bombard them with the problem. What 'level' hosting do you have with HG - how many sites on that acct?

Have you logged into your own HG acct on their website to see if you can upgrade your acct through the site? I've done that in that past - have you tried?

No one here can solve this for you - this forum is not HG customer support nor a complaint site.

Isn't this a good sign to move away from them?

With that being said it sounds like something isn't coding efficiently and should be looked at.

If you're having these much problems with them, then maybe you should migrate to another hosting provider. Why put yourself through more of the same? Do you have an attachment to them??

If he can't access his sites - if he didn't have backups - if his domains are on the same site as his hosting....it's not that simple.

Those that talk fairytales about talking nicely to them to get your things fixed have no idea what HG is and never dealt with a problem like that. Besides the fact that you are a paying customer, they don't do you any favors and don't host your stuff for free.

HG was awesome before EIG purchase, but I won't go into the details of all the web hosting platforms that fell under their ruling, who wants to know more can search it online. But I can share my experience with HG.

It was 4 years ago when I had a website (not many) with some quote images on Wordpress. I had cache, minify images, Cloudflare, Firewall protection, everything you need for speed and optimization. Out of the blue, I got notified that I exceeded resources, my website got shut down, and I haven't got any sign of cooperation from their part to tell me:

1. What can I do to fix it.
2. What caused the exceeded resources (I barely had a couple of hundreds of visitors per month that time).
3. What should I do besides buying an over-expensive totally not worth it VPS or Dedicated plan for a simple website.

After being sick and tired of their unprofessionalism and the long waits on replies (I had replies that sometimes came after 1 month), I looked for a better company that even helped me migrate, since I still had access to my Cpanel.

When I canceled my hosting with them, suddenly they had time to answer my tickets and ask me why I decided to cancel with them.

My advice would be to move from them as quickly as possible.

I left HG a while ago. You can find out which ones are under EIG on WikiPedia, though Wikipedia cann't be considered infallible. It can be a good starting point though.
