HIPAA Hosting Experience

I have "past" experience as a Server Admin for Rackspace and Liquid Web. Both take HIPPA very, very seriously and that is the primary focus when deciding on HIPPA Compliance Hosts.
Just a few suggestions..

• Do 'not' employ an independent Server Admin. Rather, utilize the respective host's Fully Managed Hosting.
• When it comes to HIPPA Compliant Hosting and Pricing saving $100 monthly can cost you millions in fees down the road.

I've done some research on HIPAA compliance and it's not cheap and overall a pain in the ass but lucrative. You're supposed to get signed agreements from everyone in the chain. Hosting, telemedicine, basically any third parties involved. If you use WP or another site builder that brings other obstacles. You also bring a lot of potential legal liability on your company by taking on these types of projects.


There are several HIPAA compliant hosts though that aren't listed above, a good place to check is WHT, several compliant hosts post on there.


I had a deal, we had a meeting, they agreed to my price. I thought about it overnight and decided it wasn't in my best interest to do it. This was after I had done a bit of research beforehand also. Fast forward a year and they are suing the company that started building the site. The lawsuit had more to do with things not getting done in a timely manner but the HIPAA part I'm sure didn't help the situation. Anyway glad I dodged that bullet.
