Hosting company recommendations?

Have been with GOGVO.com, formerly Kiosk for quite a while - but having stability issues again - they seem to have been offline - even their own site off and on for the last 24 hrs or so, and other issues over the past few weeks. Service is always wonderful, so no complaints there but I need at least a good backup host as my 'comfort' level is just not there right now!

I need someone as IM friendly as GOGVO (and yes, they are more so than most) - I am not interested in HostGator as I am just not a big fan for a number of reasons - any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Melody

If not HG then perhaps BlueHost?

have used Bluehost in the past - I would rank them with HG to be honest. Good for small sites - but not necessarily a good choice for a lot of the software that we run.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of help. The only other ones I could think of would be HostMonster and DreamHost, and I don't think either of those will be what you're looking for.

Are you looking for a VPS or dedicated server? I'd go with beyondhosting, guys even have prosper202 packages so you know they are "affiliate friendly".

      Cheers.

Would definitely prefer a US or Canadian company if possible - but have heard good things about Heart - they seem pretty good for a local ISP!

What are your requirements & what software are you looking to run?

Why is it that no one can ask what the requirements are before spouting off companies?

Are you looking for shared hosting? If you really want IM friendly get your own VPS at least. In which case I can recommend WiredTree, or KnownHost. You won't be sorry with either and you won't be looking back.

You can try below provider we have personally worked with all of them :
    UK Web hosting
    or
    Web Hosting UK

Both are UK based with quality support for US web hosting you can try:

    Web Hosting US
    or
    RS Hosting

Best thing about all this host is there support is top class and uptime is far better than few that we have tested.

  • you can try bodhost , i guess they are UK Based and offer managed services with personalised support which i have been using for quite some time , which are affordable in ded server or vps server. Or you can also consider moving to a cloud site from rackspace which is very easy to self manage or a cloud server with them which might be cheap but difficult to manage without a control panel .

I've used most over the years and I will say for stability, cust service and speed you would be very happy with 'Kick Ass VPS' - hands above any other company I've ever used. Don't know about their shared hosting (they offer it but they do not advertise it), but I have a VPS 4 with them and it is smokin.

Disclaimer, I have no affiliation or interest in their company - just a really happy customer.

GVO WebHosting - Professional Web Hosting Services is a source of problems and hornet's nest of bad support. They blamed me for the necessity of shutting down one of my site's, as it had attracted a robot that vacuumed bandwidth. I asked them, "How am I supposed to know about that? Do you notify anyone?" Never did get an answer.l

Moving all my sites asap to Storm-on-Demand. The hell with GVO. They've lost a 3-year old customer with over 20 sites.

Bluehost,Hostgator and nearly 50 such companies are owned by EIG and you can see the change after the sale. Hostgator is loosing its market real fast.

Don't you hate how everyone recommends a different source! I have been looking into this for a while as I have been wanting to move away from HG and have found this site seems to be helpful as there are many reviews on many hosts from actual users:

Website Hosting Search Tool, Reviews & More at WhoIsHostingThis.com

I wouldn't want to go all out and make a recommendation but this site seems to be helpful.

    Hi,

I would first talk to a trusted adviser who can check and estimate what hosting is required to run your site. If it is a 6 page website with static content or simple HTML you can use almost any hosting provider.

If, however, the software that your site is built so it requires more resources then you should look into a premium hosting and preferrably managed VPS (Virtual Private Server) or a Dedicated Server.

I have 2 packages from 1and1 - shared and dedicated. Their dedicated server starts from $60/mo it worked so far for me; The 3rd package is with linode. They are pretty good as well.

Linode is more for folks who can manage the underlying website software such as installing and upgrading the server software. Cost: $20/mo + $5/mo for backups

I'd probably suggest Hostgator or Dreamhost to be honest, and Godaddy or namecheap for the domains.

Why is hostgator so expensive for domains? Is there anyone who I can switch all my domains to from godaddy for a good price?

For small sites that don't get a lot of traffic (unfortunately) - amazon review sites, adsense sites, etc. - which is the best host? (aside from godaddy and hostgator, please). Shared hosting, cheap... but reliable with good cust. service.
