How to Capitalize on My Weight Loss Knowledge

Hello everyone. I have recently created a product telling about how I supported myself over the past 4 years selling electronics, and it has had great success. I am now looking to create a product to help people lose weight.

For the earlier years of my life I was morbidly obese. I weighed more from age 10-14 than I do now. My weight in middle school crept up into the 140's, 150's...in 6th grade I was over 170 lbs. I had headaches, was bullied, and was extremely self conscious.

It's been quite the journey, but I now have a body I love - and it's only getting better. I have created a healthy lifestyle and it feels amazing! I have gone from being morbidly obese with no muscle to a lot of muscle having visible abs for the first time in my life and I've finally "figured it out". There's no secret, but it's a set of principles, strategies, and mindsets that have worked absolute wonders in my life.

I really feel like I could help people that have weight problems. It's really a passion for me and I would LOVE to help people do it. What do you guys think? Would an ebook do the job better, or would coaching? I like the widespread qualities of an ebook where I could just write it once and sell it, but I also know how useful a coach is. Having someone who knows what you're going through be there every step of the was as well as having the knowledge you need is really valuable. So, what do you think?

It's really up to you. Do you want to spend some time writing an eBook for the niche or would you rather express your knowledge using videos? Videos would be perfect for this type of niche as the audience will get to see you as an authoritative figure. Plus, you can charge a monthly membership fee meaning you can keep providing exercises, nutrition, weight loss, muscle building tips for them. Since this niche is so big, you can tap into literally any sub niche within it and make hundreds of different contents with it.

Creating your own blogs and websites may be a consideration. As for monetizing, there are a number of affiliate programs out there for weight loss related products.

Forgive me if I sound cynical, but if you really want to sell in this space, I would recommend you find a way to make those "principles, strategies and mindsets" into some kind of secret formula.

Don't believe me? Scan through the best seller section on Amazon or Clickbank, and show me the ones touting principles, strategies and mindsets.

It's kind of like getting kids to eat their veggies - feed them what they already like and hide the veggies in the recipe.

I'm not going to market my solution as a secret formula when it isn't one. Everyone knows the way to lose weight is to eat less calories, it's not a secret...yet 30%+ percent of people in the US are obese. There's obviously something besides "not knowing the secret", and selling it as such is dishonest.

I'll also disagree. Your secret, and unique selling point, is how you sell your customers on those, principles, strategies and mindsets. You say that there isn't a secret to losing weight, yet people still purchase "how to lose weight" products. They do that because there is a uniqueness to the way that it's delivered.

Most people that are overweight, and looking to change, are also looking for hope, someone to guide them, suffering from depression, etc. Those are the issues that you have to tackle through your principles, strategies and mindsets to ultimately help people lose weight.

So to package that as a "secret", isn't dishonest, because the formula in which it's packaged is by it's own uniqueness the secret.

        Hi Dan,

Have you thought of writing an ebook about your experience and promoting on Amazon Kindle? I did this with my years of experience as a freelance writer - poured all of my knowledge and experiences into a 150 page ebook. Now it makes me a decent amount of passive income every month. If you're not too familiar with kindle publishing, Geoff Shaw has a really fantastic WSO (Kindling Membership) where you'll learn all you need to know about writing, formatting and publishing to Amazon Kindle.

Hope this helps in some way!

        Kudos to you.
And I think this is an opportunity for you to stand above the typical sleaze ball Marketers in this Niche.

I do myself and it can definitely be done. Create something that approaches this Niche from a different angle.

Have fun with it. Be outrageous and creative but stick with sound Principles.

Thanks so much, I'm glad you agree. I just feel like the area of personal fitness is so, so tied in with emotions...I have felt them all first hand and I KNOW how gut wrenching and hurtful it is to be overweight, trying to change, and not be able to. Deception is not the answer, and dealing with it first hand, I refuse to do it.

What I had in mind had nothing to do with deception. What I was talking about was adding some sizzle to your approach.

People have heard the "eat less and move more" mantra until it has about the same effect as a banner ad among a dozen others on a web page.

You just need to package your knowledge in a way that is palatable for people, or you will be preaching to an empty room. Like the old song says, "a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down."

There's one thing to it not being a "secret formula", but regardless of how you position your solution, you will need to do it by presenting a unique selling proposition that makes your product/method stand out from your competition - or stand out enough that people will want to pay you for that knowledge.

Whether it's a secret or not, people need to follow a plan and need to be told what to do.

Your way of doing it is unique to you and by telling your story (and getting people to identify with you), sharing your results, and selling your system - you can move units.

It has nothing to do with being dishonest. You just have to position it so that it is unique and worthy of your visitor separating themselves from their money in exchange for your promise (USP).

The market doesn't want things which work, they want quick solutions which they can give up on... That's the reality of most people who buy these sorts of books, as sad as that may be. Everyone knows how to loose weight, eat veg and lean proteins, exercise, cut out fast food and lower your carb intake to make it balanced. Most people know this but are to lazy to do it, they want a quick solution and that's it. If someone wants the real solution they'll hire a trainer or just google it.

Well, then you'd have to find another innovative way to market your idea because, if everybody already knows how to lose weight, then why would they give you money to hear something they already know?

You could maybe write an eBook, and make it about your personal experience, or create videos and try to make money through them. Or, create a website and write about your personal experiences and such, but you'd have to work hard to get traffic, because there are already a ton of weight loss blogs out there.

Hi, i think you should create your own blog and start sharing your experience on how you solved this problem, this is one of the best ways to establish yourself as an authority in the niche and, at the same time, be empathetic with your audience. when you're empathetic (by letting them know that you know how they feel because you was also there) you create a rapport, your audience start trusting you and faster than you imagine you'll be be perceived as an expert and you'll can sell your knowledge.
you can create info prodcuts on how to solve one problem at a time (one problem one Solution infoproducts) then you can also create one o one coaching (higher ticket offers)
obviuosly you need to start building your list from day one.

    hope that helps,

Coming from someone that has gone through natural transformation 3 times in different weight categories, I can truly say that it is not strategies or any formula. It is simply MINDSET. Figure that one out and you'll help a lot of people. People are obese because they don't have the drive nor the strong mindset to breakthrough.

  • Write a guide to achieve weight loss goals. Sell it on CB, CJ, or any other affiliate marketplace.
Do a kindle ebook series to help people to get the right motivation to lose weight.
Burn some DVDs in which you teach workout routines.
Create/monetize a branded Youtube channel, coach people, sell low-calories food recipes, etc.

First off, good work. I don't think most people understand how hard it can be do commit to this and succeed.

The challenge with this niche is it is heavily saturated and many of the big boys play in this niche. I do beleive there are many more ebooks than coaching programs around this, but at the same time I'm assuming the ebooks would cost less.

    Why not even try both?

I'm starting to understand exactly what Dan Kennedy means when he says; "Give them what they want, and let them figure out what they need."

I too have misconceived many legit marketing tactics as deceitful at first, and in reality, many really are not... it boils down to almost flattering a stranger in telling them something that grabs their attention or triggers their emotion, and in doing so getting them to take that first look or step towards the solution you are providing. (*Now there is where the principles, strategies, and mindsets vary... in the ability to deliver the highest quality solution, not necessarily how you got them there!)

Obviously, you have a powerful experience to share with others, which can help immensily in attracting others and building credibility and trust.

You already had some success with an ebook and getting it to market. Duplicate what you already know how to do but now do it in another niche, Health-weight loss.

I have been pretty successful in developing a website around my personal experience just using basic SEO. Traffic keeps building every month and I keep build the site with articles and things of interest to me in the arena. Write your ebook and use it as a lead magnet to get subscribers and then support them through your website and email. Promote products you like and use.

An autobiographical approach to an ebook could work. Promote it through the amazon online book store. Lyon could also set up your own domain and sell it that way. Sounds like an amazing journey, wishing you all the best
