A Question to Beginners

What has been your biggest obstacle/hardest concept/hardest technique/etc in learning Internet Marketing?

For me its been finding a niche that I would want to take further than affiliate programs. Such as creating info products and overall content creation.

What about you all?

Well for me, I am not sure what to pursue. I mean there's so many ways of making money, so for now just trying to understand all the methods, then from there will choose what I think will work for me. Still a long way to go for me.

For me, at the moment is to get my site on the top 3 rankings and make some reasonable amount of money before I consider other option and that's the reason I have already spent a few thousands dollars on various WSOs.

For me it would be coming up with a system and sticking with it. There is so much information available on how to do IM. I'm a jack of all trades, master of none, so consequently I try to dip my hand in every pot available.

The second hardest obstacle would be installing the $7 Script. That thing is a pain in the @$$. Glad I tossed it. Clickbank all the way from now on.

I'm sure your information can lead to someone helping you out, pointing you the right way, or maybe it will help someone else out.

I know what you mean. When I was getting started I payed all this money for nothing really. I was signed up to a $67/month program as my first real IM experience. The content dripped slowly and was really worthless.

The problem with asking questions like this in hopes of getting a new product idea from the answers given is that the big guys, with money and outsourcing networks already set up, will read this thread and whip up a product based on it in 24 hours, before you even have a chance to blink an eye, then they will have launched a major promotion complete with jv's before you even get finished outlining the first chapter of your ebook.

So when using thread posts like this as a way to generate ideas for yourself you are really generating info products for other more experienced marketers.

        Just FYI

          Or..
Maybe I just helped a few people via PMs.
And maybe the question was legit so that other people can share their experiences and how they solved their problems.

            Maybe you did. Kudo's.

In that case maybe you can help me. I would like to find an affiliate program whereby a guy can make 2k per sale (up front), and is not in the travel niche nor forex. Any direction would be appreciated. In fact the actual "physical product niche" might be cool.

My prob with internet marketing is it seems to be all "nickels and dimes", I want to know where the money is. The kind where you make alot of cash only getting 3-5 sales per week. I will be thankful for any help in that direction. I already make money online, but it's alot more involved than just an affiliate program... I will keep doing what I'm doing until I see something that can give me comparable results without having to make 100 sales a week... I saw Jason Moffats contest thread, but I didnt see anything that looked reasonable on it aside from travel and forex.

I have the opposite problem. I literally have so many niches and products in the works that I have to make sure and focus on one at a time to get them done.

I think I could probably keep myself busy for 5+ years just going through my current list.

This is a niche in itself. There is a demand for niche ideas - other posts in this thread demonstrate that. So why not sell them?

My biggest problem is finding the niche, the long tail keywords with the competition that I can compete with to be able to make some money.

My biggest obstacle at the moment is sticking with one technique/idea and learning it all the way through before going after the next one.

There is so much out there to be learned and I feel as though I have to pick it all up at once to get things really going.

  • I've always had a hard time converting. My pages get plenty of traffic, but people hardly ever click where I want them to click. When they do, they seldom buy.

A year in I'm getting a little better at it, but I still stand in awe of people who have a 5 percent CTR with AdSense or a 10 percent conversion rate on their affiliate links.

For me it's traffic generation. I know that's very general. I'm taking two avenues to it, one I have a related blog to my squeeze page. Blog is all original content and is submitted to RSS directories. Second is article marketing. We shall see. I'm about 20 days in and have very little traffic. I'm on pace for 50 visitors this month :S. 50 > 0 though so...we shall see.

I think that toughest thing sometimes is just seeing all the information that is out there. I can't tell you how many times I have been doing one thing and then my eye catches something else. My biggest piece of advice is, sick with one thing until you make it work. Tweak it from there.

I'm still very much just learning. Right now I'm concentrating on getting links and waiting for my ezine article to be published. It's been 7 days since I submitted it and still it's not up.

I think once I get this one site down and understand how everything works, the others will be much easier and faster.

It's been really fascinating researching my competition's backlinks. There really doesn't seem to be any pattern with any of them. Each site has their own set even though we're supposedly in the same keyword niche. I picked up a few links today, though!

The toughest thing for me starting out was and still is, staying off the message boards and keeping to my work. I have just recently started posting here and on DP but I have been reading for quite some time.

I would work for about 30 mins to an hour and it would be... well I'll just pop in and see whats new and before I knew it it was 3 or 4 hours later.

So yeah I would say that staying focused was / is my primary issue lol.

Well I'm still in the research phase and STILL have yet to take action. I think the biggest hurdle for me at this point is truly believing that my efforts will pay off. To me, actually making a decent income online is kind of a fantasy......like winning the lottery. It's just intangible to me right now, and whenever I read anything about someone having success I hear this little voice in my head saying "no it's not real, it's just a story someone wrote". And it's also discouraging to see the amount of people who work for months and months and don't make a dime......that's my fear, that I'll waste time and energy for nothing, then feel like an idiot.

Regardless, I'm going to try to have faith in this. If I actually receive a check in the mail, maybe then all this will seem "real", we'll see.

My biggest obstacle has been information overload coupled with over-hyped sales pages, and my unrealistic expectations of some of the offers I signed up for combined with a lack of focus.

I used to buy into an unbelievable deal that promises me the earth. I read the ebook from cover to cover and would then start to have some doubts. However I tell myself that it must work if only I follow 'the system' to the letter. After all other people are making money from it, I've seen their Clickbank screenshots to prove it!

After working on the system for a while and with no results I just start to feel 'here we go again' when I am hit with the next sure fire system. Oh well, the first one wasn't for me anyway, time to jump ship and try this new one, this one can't fail, can it?

Two years later I still haven't made a dime. Feeling like I've been taken for a mug I get dejected and dispondant and begin to wonder if anyone is making any money on the internet.

When I look back at things I see that the problem was with me, and not the ' dud' systems. Yes the sales pages did hype the systems up, promising $$$ for almost no work, but the systems themselves were probably workable. I just didn't realise that I would have to actually do some 'work' to make them happen.

Now I ignore most of the glitzy offers and the latest 'must do' techniques that probably won't be around in 3 years time, and have gone back to basics.

There is a lot of very good advice on this forum and a lot of very helpful people. I have learnt a lot and am just starting to turn the corner. When I do start to make a living from this I hope to be in a position to give something back to this community.

    Keep positive.

    Steve.
