Scam warning - this one targets writers

Yes, it's a brand new "Nigerian Scam", and it is targeting writers.

"Don’t ever, ever, ever, ever accept a writing job that requires you to pay the client or the employer. Never. Not ever. Not a writing job, not any other job. Did I mention “not ever”? If the client or employer wants you to pay them, they are not a client or an employer. They are a thief."

Seasoned Warriors know that if they have to pay something up-front, it is an investment, and you had better know who you are dealing with before putting down a penny.

    Could you provide a few more details?

    How are the targeted writers approached by the scammers?

    What do these scammers offer that would persuade a writer to give THEM money upfront?

    Why would anyone ever do work for someone that asks you to pay them first.

    "Hello, I would love you to employ you, if you are interested please just pay me $100 and you can get to work" hahaha

      Unfortunately, people get duped into this situation all the time, especially when the presented opportunity is a lucrative one. Craigslist is notorious for these types of "opportunities," and writers who are desperate for work or just new to the industry fall victim to them.

        Makes no sense to me unfortunately. I can't for the life of me see how anyone could think it normal to pay someone for the priviledge of working with them. That money is just going to come back to you when they pay you for your work.

        If for some bizarre reason you did have to pay to work for them then they should just pay you less for the first few instalments. That makes far more logical sense than paying them just to get the money straight back when they pay you.
