ATTENTION ALL WORDPRESS GURUs

Everyone talks about how easy it is to learn Wordpress. I had a guy that built sites for me with wordpress. He became totally unreliable and I fired him. Instead of hiring someone else I want to lean wordpress myself. Can someone recommend an eBook or a step by step training guide to learn how to create professional looking sites with wordpress. I have limited computer skills and need a complete guide. I have strong marketing skills but need to expand my abilities in site design. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you just want to learn the basics of Wordpress this free ebook by Tony Shepherd might be perfect for you: Wordpress Blog Goober In 24 Hours

It walks you right through the steps of setting up a Wordpress blog, tells you which default settings to change, which plugins you need...

I found it when I already had build a couple of blogs and wished I would have known all this stuff before staggering on my own through the whole process. I just loved it. Hope, this helps!

    Good luck! Geolina

It is easy to use it but that has nothing to do with "site design".
WordPress or not - site design, web design is professional skills and talent. Many people fluent in HTML & CSS are not able to design because they lack the 'eyes' for it...

Learning your computer basics in the same time as you venture into the web design... will be quite a steep learning curve. I don't envy you!

Just for one bad experience I wouldn't waste my time on learning something that I am so clueless about. Use your marketing skills to make more money and pay a reliable freelancer to develop WP websites for you.

Or you could just buy a developer's license from StudioPress, iThemes, Woo Themes, just to name a few. All of these programs have very active member forums where help is just a few clicks away. Many have training videos and examples of sites created with their templates.

You are also able to rebrand the theme as well as fully customize them.

I hired a guy to build a wordpress site for me and he put his affiliate links in it instead of mine. He will not return calls nor emails now

I was able to change all but one affiliate id once he had transferred all the info to my server but have not had any success with the last one.

Does anyone know how to change the affiliate link that appears be added from an "outside source" and probably not added through the Wordpress wp-admin. I cannot find it anywhere in the wp pics/audio/video editor.

    Thank you!!

Sounds like he put it in the template. You'll have to look through the Theme Editor, Start with footer.php, if that isn't it, then check the Css or Stylesheet.css, it's in there somewhere, i'm sure. If you'll post a link to the site, maybe someone can help you find it.

It is shocking to know! From where you hired that guy? Are you sure he did that intentionally,
or some Virus/Trojan at your own computer or at your hosting server is doing this stuff...

If it was the guy doing the bad thing, it can be located in theme files and that code
can be removed...let me know if you still need help in this regard.

Check out Firepow if you want to use WP for multiple sites, it sets it all up for you.

Otherwise just look at free tutorials online - there are plenty of videos and text documents including on the official WP site.

      1. Actually installing wordpress is really easy if you are using Cpanel with fantastico. It should take you less than 10 seconds (no exageration)

      2. Look for the "Top Wordpress plugins" - All in one SEO plugin is a must.

      3. Wordpress themes - see topwpthemes.com/
There are some really nice one there

4.Once you have setup a few wp blog, then you can scale the process with WPmanagerDx and you would need to outsource the construction of your wordpress empire !

Wow - I'm shocked to read Julia's post above. That really, really sucks.

If you PM me I may be able to help you work through that last rogue link.

And, in response to the original question - here's yet another free tutorial on setting up and configuring WordPress. For the sake of full disclosure, please note that the ebook is absolutely free, not even any need to opt in, but the book itself does contain affiliate links.

Wordpress can be very hard to learn. I am a good CSS/HTML coder and i can do almost what i want with WP but man, don't go too excited about WP cause you can learn to use Cpanel + WP Install but... as you said:

I have limited computer skills and need a complete guide.
... maybe you should invest your time wisely in what you do best.

    Just my 2 cents
