Setting Up Payment System

I am new to this online business and quickly realising that nothing is straightforward.

I live in UK and looking to open a PayPal account to accept payments if I can ever make a go of this.

As yet I don't have a business registered. Can anyone advise if this is needed to open a UK Business PayPal account. The personal PayPal account is no good as that can't accept payments.

Thanks

You can sell online using PayPal with any account type.

The only difference between personal and business acount is that with a personal account you can sell things under your name, while with a business account you can sell under your Business name.

On the UK site it only refers to shopping on the personal account. Are you UK based.

I am near UK, and used UK version of paypal for a long time. You can sell even with a Personal account.

If you go down the paypal route then, get yourself a free Premier account. This enables you to accept multiple debit/credit cards and also removes the unwanted withdrawal limits you have with a standard personal account.

Thanks, sheeko69. The premier account isn't apparent on the UK website, but it is there if you approach the site from other search angles rather than the front door. I probably need to phone them tomorrow to discuss.

There personal account info is all about shopping and some ebay payments as far as i can see.

I don't think the paypal uk site is so informative of the account options.

Just sign-up for any type of account you want. You will be able to sell. Just go for it.

A personal account is not verified, so there are certain limits that might make a personal account too restrictive for your needs.

Just as an example, personal accounts are more apt to be frozen because of bumping up against those limits. Avoid that possibility now, by taking the extra 10 minutes needed to upgrade (at no charge) to either a Premier or Business account.

    Hi StephenGB,

If you are selling your own products , PayPal will not solve your problems. You will still have some "small" legal issues. Read this: VAT MOSS.
