What are your perceptions of internet marketers? What standing do they you feel they have? Are you happy to call yourself an internet marketer or do you say you are something else?

    Well internet marketer is just like a marketing

    It's a person that does:
    - advertising
    - sets up a funnel
    - affiliate offers
    - gets traffic

    And then you have: copywriters they do only copywriting, etc.

    So yeah, I'd call myself an internet marketer and yet, I'm a copywriter, web designer, advertiser and the list goes on...

      Internet marketer or "Internet Marketing" (the term) has gotten a stain. Which is why you'll seldom if ever see that word in traditional business publications. Forbes, Wall Street Journal, or even Entrepreneur Magazine and more. They use the term "Online Marketing" . And I predict you'll see it used in a growing number of cases.

      Unfortunately, Internet Marketing is associated with work at home, fast money, scams, get-rich quick schemes to more of the civilian population than ever before.

      Personally, outside of those who do it (Warrior Forum, for example) I don't use the word "Internet Marketer" I use 'Online Marketer', for the above reasons.

        he,he... Just don't walk into a bank or approach an investor to fund a small business loan for your "Internet Marketing" company, they'll run like a scalded cat.

        But if you say you're an "online marketer" or have a "digital marketing" company they'll at least here you out and see if your numbers make sense, like they do other legitimate businesses.

        Yes, perception is everything today. It can get you in the door or keep you out.

    To those that matter to me, I don't have a problem at all referring to what I do as internet marketing, but I'm usually a little more specific. (They probably rather I wouldn't be).

    I love to talk about it, so I start with something like "I develop products to market online" and then I begin going into detail about whatever current project I'm working on. A couple of minutes into my tirade... I realize I lost them and find a graceful way to exit my explanation.

    edit - Maybe the "rep" isn't as bad as you think it is... and it's really your own embarrassment showing.

    I never refer to myself as an internet marketer. Internet Marketing has become more about marketing dreams to wannabe internet marketers than anything else. These days I go by the title "Digital Marketing Manager". Sounds better and distances me from the stain that IM has gotten.

      There's a great big world out there that people are missing if they truly believe this.

      That said, I never understood why anyone would refer to themself as an internet marketer. Do you think the guy who owns your local lawn care business refers to himself as an offline marketer? Marketing is marketing whether it is online or offline. And it's something that successful businesses do well.

      Internet Marketing is exactly how it sounds

      Marketing on the Internet...

      Every business that markets their products or services using the power of the internet are internet marketers...

      They may call themselves entrepreneurs, business people, business owners, etc...

      But example the owner of Amazon Jeff Bezos probably not walking around saying he is an internet marketer...

    When talking to relative, friends, acquaintances I refer to it as website development and/or small business consulting. And then I will proceed to tell them exactly what I do

    I think the term "Internet Marketer" has been tainted by a few bad apples. If you walk into a big corporation and tell them that's what you do, most of the time they're going to look at you like an **** Berry scammer.

    Therefore I would rather explain to people some of my current projects or accomplishments to describe what I do.
