To my way of thinking, the question you're asking would make sense if we were all marketing to the same crowd. But because we're not, because we're all trying to find the best conversions for our own audience, it makes little sense to ask where someone in a different niche is finding the best conversions so that you can use that same source.

No, Facebook is not universal. In some niches Facebook gives lousy results for monetizing traffic.

In one of my niches, a very niche-specific magazine rents their subscriber list and that has been my best source of conversions in that niche. But if you tried to use it for marketing outside the niche I'm sure you would say it's a useless resource.

Bottom line, IMO, is this: You have to track and test for maximum conversions within your own niche. Where someone else advertises successfully has absolutely no bearing on where you should advertise.

but I lol'ed at the reference 'sad words'. Believe it or not, when i first started using G-adwords could get PPC for about 0.002 cents a click. No joke, now they are strict and you are flat out getting cheap clicks there nowadays. Some companies will even pay $10 and more a click, as they are building lists, and losing on teh front end. But making up for it in the back end. One of my clients was actually doing about $15 a click. WHOA!, but he was still profitable. So there are pros and cons I guess.

BING and FACEBOOK, have more bang for bucks today. And are not anywhere near as strict as GOOGLE sad words. The thing is google does get higher quality sometimes. But its up to you and your niche.
