Searching for a mentor

In the last weeks, I was searching for a possible mentor to coach me. I finally thought about one of my ex boss that has a lot of success in life.

What do you think I should ask him when I contact him for the first time? He knows me but it's been more than ten years since we have seen each others.

    Great decision buddy. Finding a right mentor / coach is key to becoming successful. If you respect your former boss so much that his is the first name that comes to your mind when you think about a mentor, I'm sure you'll learn a lot from him. Go tell him about how highly you think of him and how you'd like to learn from him. I'm sure he'll agree.
    Since you haven't seen him for 10 years, you may want to make sure that he's still at the top of his game. See if you can find out a little about him and what he has been doing last 10 years. A meeting /dinner to catch up would be a great ice-breaker. You can then decide if you still want to continue with you plan of asking him to be your mentor. Here is to your success!

    It should definitely be a good ride with him! After 10 years hes still having success online means hes probably really triumphant by now. If you are able to get in touch with him and he remembers you this is a good sign. Maybe he will pick you up and take you with him on the road to success!

    Well I think it depends if you want coaching in the same field as your boss.
    Yea, unless you are just looking for someone to motivate you. If that's the case, look in the mirror. That's the only guy who can do that.

    May I ask what you business/niche you need coaching for? And does your boss have expertise in that business/niche? Are you asking for that kind of coaching?

    Or are you asking for generally learning how to run a business?

      That's exactly this. I need general learning and motivation to run a business. This man is a marketing expert but he owns a business related to nature, my field.

    Go for it mate! Great step. The best mentors are the ones you can look up to and know. It's a better decision then to try find one here.

    In terms of what to ask him. Just be honest and upfront. Maybe catch up with him once for coffee. As a business owner, I can imagine his time being valuable though. See how your coffee goes and take it from there. Explain your situation, what you want to do, etc. See if it's ok to call him every now and then.
