Did Anyone Ever Use Website Flipping?

Can you make money with that? Which program are you using? How much money do you need to start up? Where can you sell the sites? I'm very grateful for any information. Olga

I've done it on a limited business. I feel that mine flipped for two reasons. 1. killer names and two cheap, $100 and Under. Most I sold from my sig file here and others as WSOs.

  • No one has ever resold a site?

Sitepoint is now using Flippa and it seems to be working fine.

The problem I see is that people are creating junk sites or even if the sites are decent they can't command much money for the amount of time it takes to develop them into usable assets.

I buy sites now and again but I buy them for my portfolio to develop. There can be a lot of hassle in moving sites.

I'm sure there is real money to be made, but you have to ask yourself if the money is in the long run or just a quick buck? I don't develop for the short term as I want my portfolio to deliver residuals.

There is money in it if you want to take the time to build a business that is based on producing quality websites and providing good customer service. Plenty of people here make a lot of money selling sites as a business.

Search the forum - there was a thread not too long ago that talked about some good sources to learn website flipping from. Plenty of good advice in the thread too.

I posted this as a reply to a similar thread above.

I have sold a couple sites on Flippa with 3 day listings.

The first site I sold was 100% PLR content site which I ofcourse mentioned
in the ad. The buyer contacts me a day later said my site didn't have original content on it! (DUH) So not only did I lose the sale, but now I have to repay for another listing AND I have to pay the success fee even though there was no success.

By the way the buyer left me a negative feed back saying I was stealing and copying other peoples websites. go figure. Here is that site feel free to make an offer.

The other transaction was smooth as silk. Accepted the offer, transferred the files and the new owners had the site back up in under and hour. Here is that site.

I don't make anything fancy. I believe simple can still be eye catching.

I have sold a few and been involved in the sale of some major ones. Gambling.com was probably the biggest one I was involved with. Sold for $5.5 Mill...

You can do it but like anything business related there is a lot of work involved.
Research is a major factor in dealing with almost any internet business development. Google is your best friend in this.

I noticed your sites are both made with Xsitepro. Does that make a difference about who you can sell them to, i.e. would the buyer need to have Xsitepro too?

I ask this because I too use Xsitepro and have been considering developing sites to flip.

    Thanks
    Bobby

      Hi Bobby,

I used to code all my sites by hand with Macromedia Homesite, but no more.

      Its XSitePro2 for me.

There is some hesitation from buyers as to whether they too would need a copy of the software. I simply explain what XSitePro does and that I will still be giving them all the html and scripts so they can edit the site themselves using any html editor.

I also give them the XSitePro 2 source files as well incase they purchase the software sometime down the road.

I flip two or three sites a year but I can spend 12 to 18 months working on them.

I tried flipping cookie cutter blogs on Flippa until I saw similar sites selling for $57. The Startup market became saturated after everybody started selling ebooks on how to make money flipping websites. They kinda shot themselves in the foot.

You need to decide whether you want to sell a large volume of sites built quickly and sold at lower prices or one or two money making authority sites built up over a year or two that sell for a much larger sum of money.

I flip sites all the time and make a great living from it. I flip on Flippa mostly, but also use sitedeal.org. I flip startup sites and established sites and most of my sites sell. I don't sell sites under the $300 range. There's a lot of junk sites on Flippa ... the trick is to not build junk. Build quality sites and you can sell them as turnkey or startup sites. Let some age and get traffic and revenue and you can sell for a lot more.

I've made an investment in quite a few premium themes - developers license. That's the main expense I had in the beginning was getting a developer license for some really decent themes.
