Personal caricature as logo?

Hey folks,

I'm thinking of this idea about creating a blog to write about blogging specifically. I'm at step 2 of my plan, now is time to find a logo for the "company".

I thought about a personal caricature of mine with the domain name since it will be my first and last name; a few affiliate marketers told me that as soon as they've switched to a "caricature-style" logo it seemed their relationship with the customers was easier built (especially for the newcomers).

I'm kind of a muscle-head guy that loves alone time to read and write about fitness, nutrition, business, blogging and how humans act in general. I have no idea how the drawing would look like but I'm eager to know. At the price point of two hundred bucks, I really hope I'll be getting something great...

- Point me in the right direction here, tell me about your experiences; this logo will probably be everywhere on the site, biz cards, guest posts, social networks, videos, etc; so it must be something people actually like!

I'm looking forward to your replies everybody,

Jean-Michel M.

      This forum's category:
"Find out and learn more about SEO, running an online business, latest trends and effective strategies and techniques for marketing your business, website or product online."

I think branding fits in the "effective strategies and techniques for marketing your business"; don't you?

I was looking for some help about personal caricatures as logos. My name is my profile and I pretty much introduced myself in what I just wrote up there; since it's needed when you draw a caricature...

I will be happy to contribute to this forum and introduce myself more specifically if anybody sees a need for it. But you don't seem any interested in knowing more about me, looking at the way you responded.

Was your reply an honest question or simply a way of yelling at me "your thread does not belong in this category"; in your own words, with an extra bit of negative criticism..?

    Welcome to the forum.

If you look at Regional Warriors post they are all the same snide comments and trying to be the forum sherriff. Dont worry about it.

I suppose the benefit of a characture is that it helps with personal branding although I've read somewhere that photos convert better.

If you go with a picture of yourself you are tying yourself to the business which may or may not be a problem depending on if you have an exit strategy in mind.

200 sounds about right for a professional logo. Where you getting it done?

Thanks for the heads up about regional warrior, kinda felt like this forum wasn't for me after all if people were all acting the same way he is.

For the logo I got in touch with "the logo company"; so far so good I'd say, they've been very helpful and prompt with replies.

I plan to start focusing on this carricature logo idea of mine in a few days.

Feedback from Warriors seem to tell me it would be the perfect idea for a personal blog (which it is).

I don't have any exit strategy. If people type my real name on Google, the goal will be to land on the personal blog itself and make them feel like I'm somebody very dedicated to what he does, have goals you know (I'm thinking employers, etc since I still have a daytime job).

Thanks for your reply mate, I look forward to bettering my english by reading and writing as much as I can since it's not my first language.

      Happy to meet y'all

I think it is an awesome idea to use your personal caricature as your logo. Caricature images are eye-catching and will surely draw the attention of your target audience.

I'm not sure about caricatures. Sometimes I find them harder to take seriously and a cartoon image isn't really that serious.

But here's the thing, maybe I'm not your market. The logo and brand you create should be inline with the type of person you're trying to attract.

And second, if you had a stellar reputation in the market and were promoting yourself via recommendations (say, as an authority on podcasts and similar) I wouldn't give a monkeys left whats-it what your logo or brand looked like. All I'd care about was the information you were selling.

Third piece of waffle, you can always change it later if it doesn't work out.

I'd really like an audience that fits my own personality; professional but humorous bloggers. I chose to go with the caricature/cartoon logo of me. :p

There's a very good service online that produces a caricature from your photo - they are fast, do excellent work, and it only costs $33. Personally, $200 sounds like more than you need to pay ... but if you're happy, great.

It feels like a bit much to me but my goal isn't to save, I prefer to make sure I have something of quality from people that I've found had great experience and feedback from the community.

Can you share the 33$ link with me via PM @Steve B for the other biz? I'd like to give a look at it and get more information before making my final decision.

Thanks for taking the time to help,

Yes, having a caricature as your logo is a great idea. I've seen it before on fitness websites (for example Anabolic Cooking) and it looks cool.

And I also think that you can find much cheaper deals. You can start by searching on Fiverr

    Go for it

I much prefer blogs that have picture of the creator since he most probably stands behind his content and it gives you some extra trust from people cause not everyone would put their pictures on blogs like that

I always thought about having a caricature logo. I think it can be effective.

But I never went thru with it. I thought it would make me more self conscious to look at a cartoon of myself
      everyday lol

    Go here for your caricature:
Caricatures from photos : Create personalized caricature online

Some guys from peerfly.com use caricature of their faces in their email signature, and it works well (I think). So, you can go with it. Nothing's wrong with personal branding, even if you work for a company owned by someone else.

    Good luck.

I have seen a few people use the caricature in their logo and it seemed to work pretty good for them. I think personally that your logo could be a giant dirty sock and if your content is entertaining enough and value driven enough...it's like you are going to make that giant dirty sock something cool. Just my opinion though.
