CB Vendor Question - Change Existing Product or Create New?

by keyon

I'm a Clickbank vendor and I have a product that generates about 10 sales/month. Nothing special about that, but it's consistent. However, I've developed a new and improved version, which will be double the price of the old. Which should I do?

1) Keep the old product as is...make the improved version a new product.
2) Keep the old product listing...but change price, images, thank you page, etc.
3) Delete the old product...add the new product.

Thanks for your help!

I like option 1 and use the new product as an upsell - Sometimes where you have a comparison chart, people opt for the more expensive version because of perceived value.

It's hard to know, so many factors can make all the difference. If it is the same product but upgraded and improved I would go for option 2).

      Thanks...
But how will this affect my current affiliates? I don't really have any way to contact them about the changes. If they continue to promote my old product, I guess when customers click through they will see the new?

    Here's another alternative:

    4) Offer the new product to all those that bought the old product at a steep discount (like 60% OFF). Give them a deadline after which they will have to pay full price. Change the product listing, price, and every part of your marketing. This is a new and improved product, right? Present it that way. Take the old product off the shelf and out of the market.

Here's the thing . . . why would you continue to keep the old version on the market if you have released your "new and improved" product?

Could you really feel good about selling an old product that is not the very best version of itself? Do car manufacturers continue to sell new 2012, 2013, 2014 models in 2016? No. They replace old versions with new models. You should do the same.

You also said you had no way of contacting current affiliates? Why not? You should be on top of your sales force and know how to get in contact with all of them just for situations like this. Go back through your sales records and see which affiliates are referring sales. Those that have never sold for you . . . probably won't sell in the future either.

Thanks Steve. I'm with you - I want to dump the old product entirely.
In regard to knowing who your affiliates are - what's the best way to do this? My sales records provide only a short code in the affiliate column. I've been able to find some of my affiliates by searching Google. Others have suggested that I dig into my logs and track links?

Depends how different the new product is. If the difference is not so much, change the old product into the new, and maybe have a downsell for customers who can't afford the new price tag.
However, if the new one is very different, then just create a new product from scratch.

      Do you sell on Clickbank?

If so you would know you cannot just change prices and products on CB without creating a new one.

If the OP has an improved version of their product then they can launch as a new product perhaps with a similar name - i.e. Product 2.0 and even hanging off the same domain.

Contact all past purchasers and give them access to the new product as Steve said at a steep discount or even a complimentary upgrade.

In the affiliate listing inside the marketplace for your old product direct affiliates to the improved version.

Don't pull the old version off the market but keep upgrading people after purchase.

Eventually when the sales of the new product have taken off then you can let the marketplace listing lapse but still don't kill the old product because there will be links out there referring traffic.

Just keep upgrading old version buyers for free.

Change your old affiliate area to point affiliates to the offer that is best for them. Let them decide.

      Best regards,

      Ozi

I would keep the old product as it seems to have a consistent sales every month. 10 sales/month is nothing to look down on. Apparently your old product has a good reputation. I would not pull it from the market. Did you promise your users that updates are included in their purchase? If yes you might have a problem. If not, I would keep both products separate with different sales pages etc. If you want to take the old product from the market I would only do it once the new product sells at least as well as the old one. Option 3/4.

Delete the old product, add the new product and sell the new product to buyers of the old product for a large discount as suggested by Steve B.
