$10000 to change my life

Hi.

I'm about to be made redundant from my job after 7 years.

I don't want to go back to the 9.5 job as I've a 8 month old son and would love to spend my time with him while he's young.

I have $10000 to invest in something that will make me $2500/month .. This would be enough to cover costs of living etc.

Me:
I can make websites /graphics
I can learn new things fast
I'm hard working

I'm looking for ideas / pointers .. I don't want to waste money.

I'd love to have income from AdSense etc.. I have an account but it only makes $1-2 a day.

What would you do to try quit the 9/5 and work from home with $10000?

I would do the same thing I've done:

Start with Kindle Publishing. IMO it is the easiest an fastest way to make money online and I've tried quite a few techniques...Took me a few months to quit my job and do this full time.

Keep your $10 000. Just invest in a good step-by-step program or learn by yourself. You don't need to spend more than $50 to learn all you need to know.

Hey Stoc, the first thing you should know is that you don't need to invest anywhere close to $10,000 to get started with a legitimate business online.

Obviously, the more you can invest sensibly, the faster you'll make progress.

I understand that you want to spend time with your son, and that's as good a reason as any for building an income from home.

With that being said, you mentioned you that know how to build websites and graphics so you can always look into freelancing.

If you take the freelancing route, be sure to read this: http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...ess-model.html

A couple of other options I can personally vouch for is affiliate marketing and Kindle publishing.

I'm going to say something that I hope you don't take the wrong way...

But you might have to get another job (at least temporarily) until you start seeing consistent income with whatever business model you choose.

I'm not saying you can't build a job-replacing income in a few months but the fact is, building a business usually takes some time to build a solid understanding and foundation.

How long it takes you to get to your income goals is highly dependent on a number of variables including your personal rate of growth, so I won't say much more than that.

Be sure to figure out ONE business model you can see yourself doing, be smart about where you invest your money, and remain consistent.

    Regards,
    Daniel

It looks like you are being forced into unemployment, and I ain't your Mom, so do what you want. Who wouldn't like to have an income from AdSense, or PPC marketing, etc. Be honest with yourself - all of these other ways to make money are just like AdSense - not as easy as it sounds, and VERY FEW people go big and make it, compared to the number of people that try.

If any of this were easy, and it was a simple matter of a $10,000 investment = $2,500/month, you would have made your employer redundant quite some time ago, not the other way around, as would have everyone else with a computer and internet connection.

If it were me, with an 8 month old son, my ass would be knocking on doors, looking for another job, and then try to get some extra money (and marketing experience) with some design freelancing at night. Which, is another thing that sounds easier than it is - making a full time income as a freelancer, of any type.

But that is all your life and your decision.

If I had $10,000 to 'invest' (loose), I would jump into PPC in BIG markets on a BIG traffic source. And I would be prepared to LOOSE the $10,000. Certainly before I figured things out and broke even/became profitable. And keep in mind that you give 100 people $10,000 and tell them to go make 'internet riches', most of them will still need a job to feed and clothe themselves, and any 8 month old children they have, and won't have that $10,000 anymore ...

Maybe I should have included this.

My package from my old job is $40000/ tax free.. So I'll have 30000 to live on. Plus I get about 800/month from the state..

Also I have job offers already.. I can find work easily.. That's not the reason for this.. The reason is to spend more time as home with my young son... His mother ( my partner ) is disabled and is finding it harder and harder to look after him..

      Thanks for the replies.

Why not document your progress towards helping bring up your son and supporting your family.

You would be creating an honest outline of what you tried and tested.

There would be plenty of parents willing to pay for help with solving their work life balance in relation to bringing up their kids.

If you can add value to their lives and add value to yours at the same time you may come up with something that provides value and rewards you over the longer term.

        best regards,

          Well said, Ozi.

There's a lot of good advice in this thread, Stoc.

I'll chime in with take your time until you find the sweet spot, the method (not necessarily product) that's just right for you, the one you can't wait to build on every day, the one that keeps the ideas popping.

Once you find that, you'll automatically want to give it all you've got and study like hell to learn how to build and tweak and build.

Have the patience to study and learn until you know, absolutely know, that [ _____ ] is exactly what you've been waiting for.

Just as an example, here is one for kids. As your kid grows, he will be surrounded by other kids. So, a kid oriented franchise might suit your needs.

        Here's two (NO affiliation).
Start a Sing Your Name Business, Sing Your Name Business Opportunity for Sale | FranchiseDirect.com

Start a Tennis Time - The Ultimate Kids Sports Business, Tennis Time - The Ultimate Kids Sports Business Business Opportunity for Sale | FranchiseDirect.com

Just two examples, work from home, take the son along and as he grows, you will get to share with other parents who could become friends and CUSTOMERS.

        Good luck,

You have graphics skill, you can sell your art work at Zazzle.com
And in the same time, you can start a solid Amazon affiliate blog. With $500-$1000 investment, you can get $2k-$3k per month. It is not easily at start up, but when it is on system, you will have passive income. If you need have on it, I can help you for free.

Listen man, you have some decent money to invest. Don't hurry, please explore and learn. Don't just jump in! If you create a quality plan you could turn that money into a very big pile of money. It would be a very bad thing to waste that money. As far as IM is concerned you can invest in buying already profitable websites, you can invest in developing your own small network of money making websites, you can do paid advertising. Aside from IM, you can also invest in online trading. I'm doing it and it is pretty reliable and profitable if you know what you're doing. PM me for more info if you want. There are options for you. Explore more and think carefully before spending money.

For the past 16+ years I have been monetizing purchased data(email) using PPL (pay per lead) offers.

By buying data, I'm building assets that I then own and can market to over and over for low cost. Compared to what most marketers do, which is to pay for traffic over and over and typically just get a bunch of clicks and never be able to market additional offers to. No matter what type of marketing you do, being able to drive cost effective, quality traffic is key.

I then monetize the traffic through PPL offers. The reason I use them is that no credit card is required. All a user has to do is fill out a form to make money, so conversion rates are typically much higher than offers that require a purchase.

What makes it work so well is really the combination of two...being able to drive high volume quality traffic at low cost and promoting free offers that have mass appeal and convert/pay well.

While there is obviously much more that goes into it, it really does work. Everyone that I know that is in the business that knows what they are doing does 6-7 figures. While that may be a huge range, much of it comes down to ones ability to scale and effective managing the infrastructure that comes with scaling.

In addition, I also develop my own PPL offers / buyers for the leads and sure that it's something very few have ever though about. PPL, is just lead generation offers. What probably holds many back is the though of having to get buyers, but it's really not that hard to do, as fresh leads is really the lifeblood of many businesses. I have never had a problem getting buyers.

The key is optimizing your page and form to convert well. Also you have to remember that much of the traffic these days is mobile and optimizing for it, isn't always priority and a big mistake. Also you are able to monetize all of the thank you traffic and you get to keep a copy of all the data generated and monetize it as well.

Once you have a high converting offer, it's easy to get affiliates to run it. There are a lot of big affiliates capable of generating $10K-$100K+ per month in commissions and they are always looking for good converting offers. Not only that, once word gets out that you have a good offer, they will seek you out.

Once you completely build out one offer, then you build out a another and another, etc... Again, there is more to it than meets the eye and it is work. But it's something that most anyone can do over time, even with a modest budget.

You combine the data monetization (driving your own traffic) and your own offers / big affiliates and you can potentially produce crazy money.

None of that is BS or theory, it's 100% from personal experience and what I have been doing for a long time.

Anyway, just my 2 cents...something to think about.

    Here's a little tip:

What ever you are going to sell (Affiliate programs), make sure that you work with programs that pay you residual income or recurring income.

When you focus on ONE time commissions, you always have to depend on new sales.

Justin here from Empire Flippers. Thanks for the mention!

With only $10K to spend, the OP will NOT be able to buy a website or business (from us or anyone else) that makes $2,500 per month in net profit.

      That's just a fact.

He'd have to buy at a 4X monthly multiple and that just doesn't happen.

He COULD buy a site earning $400 - $500/month, though, and work to build/grow it out. Would take time, though, and wouldn't be a quick fix.

There are no easy investment answers to spending $10K and getting $2.5K per month in residual income within a few months time. Whoever tells you there is an easy way is lying. (And probably selling you something)

You CAN invest $10K and get up to $2.5K per month or more, but it's going to take some time, quite a bit of energy, and a bit of luck as well, usually.

I'd buy a website that is already making $250/mo to $500/mo and has plenty of growth potential (at least enough to reach the financial goal(s) you have in mind). Or JV with something interesting.

It would require some investment, but you have to remember that starting from scratch is very difficult and it might ultimately cost you a lot more time and money to reach that same $250/mo to $500/mo.

Don't be so fast to spend your hard earned money. First spend some time learning different ways to make money online and first understand. Get yourself a mentor or two that are successful and spend time learning what they do and how they think to do what they do.

This is really the most important advice I can give to someone who is serious. You can not be in a rush. This is a real business just like anything else and takes time.

      Hi,
I totally agree; and with a range of other comments and good suggestions made. To add my 2 cents worth.

Just because you have a range of finances sorted doesn't necessarily mean you have to be in a rush to start spending the $10K you consider you have set aside for IM stuff.

If you have the skills, why not get part time work which will enable you to spend more time with your son, whilst you start building your online business? Seems a waste to not utilise you talents and skills that you've already obtained.

Maybe put some of those talents and skills to use as some have suggested with talking about your journey as a Dad with an 8 month old (if this is your first) and what works and doesn't work.

The internet is full of Mum's and New Mums' websites and journals - unsure about new Dads and what it means for new Dads etc.

Adsense is really small. If your site then starts receiving heaps of quality traffic you could then start selling some banner ads space on your website to increase the coffers. Like sign up with Buy Sell Ads and start selling ad space. Once you know that the site is receiving high quality traffic. Could even build up an email list and start promoting (judiciously) some relevant affiliate products for Dads etc.

In other words, avoid being in a hurry to spend that $10K and think of that $10K as potential nest egg for your son's education down the track.

      Anyway hope this assists.

If you really are good at picking up things then learn programming and with the right idea you can create some sites that people pay regularly to use. Intimidated by the idea? Languages in frameworks like Rails and Laravel have made it MUCH easier to pick up.

sorry but graphic and web designers are now a dime a dozen. every other person clams to be one.

I learned awhile back a simply rule of business life.Anything that anyone can pick up in a few days or weeks is something that is either devalued in the market place or will be. Its like many a MLM 'opportunity". First set in have a good shot and by the 5 millionth signup people can't find anyone to prospect that already have not been approached. Programming still frightens the masses away from it even though its much easier now. If you could simply drop $10,000 and make $2500 a month in no time then plenty more people would be at home.

You have to separate yourself from the pack and THEN use the $10,000 to advertise it.

Jumping into IM with all you have will be the biggest mistake you will make especially when your income is already at red alert. You know why? Because it takes time to make solid income online. And remember, before you can make income online you need to get the 3 arms of IM right (correctness/right + time and resources). As you can see, you need right + time + resource to make it happen here and if any of those arms fall of, you are in for it.

My advice is to get a job first and then explore other avenues online and educate yourself.
It's true people make lots of money online but one thing they don't tell you is it takes time, expertise and correctness too.

Make a list of things you know how to do
Figure out which ones people are willing to pay for and how much and where those people exist
Figure out who else is selling these things and how you can position yourself as the better choice (don't go for cheaper; someone's always willing to go broke being cheaper than everyone else)
If you can make websites, figure out who wants them, how to connect with them, etc.
If you can teach others how to create websites, do the same.

By the way: people pay little for a website; they pay much more for a tool that brings them leads that they can convert into sales.

So, don't sell websites, sell lead-producing online properties.

Join your chamber of commerce... You'll easily meet people, some of whom are business owners or self-employed who'll give you, indirectly, a lot of great ideas. Ideas like: lots of people call themselves business owners, and some may, indeed, be business owners, but they're not going to be your clients even if they plead with you to accept them as clients (i.e., you'll learn quite fast about qualifying).

I would suggest you test out different stuffs such as PPC, affiliate marketing, Adsense, Product creation and find out what works for you. Then scale up.

Not everything works for everyone and you never know until you have tested it out.

I will advise you to buy yourself an established website or a blog from Flippa, and then focus on getting more traffic to that. I have done it and start seeing moderate success, and with few months of hard work will be seeing expected success.

I disagree with joining fiverr or the freelancing websites.

If you are good at making websites, you should start a local website design company in your area. Local is where the good money is. The freelancing sites are plagued with cheap labor and you will only be making pennies on the dollar of what you're worth.

I'm sure there are plenty of businesses in your area with a nice budget looking for a website. And finding them isn't as hard as you think. Since they are local, you will also build a real working relationship with them and they are more likely to pass your name on to other companies in the area.

$10k is plenty of money to get started.

I think one of the ways you can make a good investment is to invest in creating a membership site. It will be a recurring income if you do right Niche research and provide good quality content for your audience. You can always scale up or scale down. All you need is a Nice Platform. ConstantContinuity is a good platform to start with. There are others but they are not cheap.

    Best of luck

You did mentioned you have graphics skills.

You can improve on it further and sign up with some freelancing sites and be making some good income.

As a beginner you will need to create an eye catching profile, give more than your competitors and offer great service.

Once it's starts paying off, you can invest in your own site and promote it via paid ads and then move into affiliate marketing.

It really is a daunting task and needs discipline.

    All the best..

Hi, Stoc, this is what I would do, and what you should try!

    1) Pick a nich - it's free, and it doesn't require any money, but it may be the most difficult step. There are tons of messages and articles out there on choosing the right niche.

    2) Buy a domain name and a web hosting - from $50 to $150 annually.

Originally Posted by Stoc View Post

    It's amazing, that is why:

    3) Install WordPress, nice looking theme, plugins - can be free, or requires one time investment - $100.

    4) Write at least 20 articles, add your affiliate links to Amazon, ClickBank.
If you don't have a passion for writing, you can outsource it: $5 * 20 = $100 (on Fiverr, for instance)

This is where the real fun begins. Now you have a blog with 20 blog posts, but no traffic at all.

    5) Create a landing page, get ready to gather email addresses. No need to create follow ups, nothing to promote or sell.

    6) Invest $1.000 into buying solo ads. Use Udimi, Facebook Groups, Warriors For Hire. What can you expect? 1 subscriver for a few dollars. I think, you can expect to spend $1000 and collect at least 500-1000 email addresses. This is what works for me.

But I encourage Warriors who are reading this message, and who are more experienced in buying solo ads than I am to correct me, if I'm wrong, because this is particularly important to be precise here! And we all don't want that Stoc loses his money, don't we?

Now, you've spent $1250, you have a blog and a list of 500-1000 email subscribers. Keep publishing blog posts at least three times a week and send broadcasts.

With click-through-rate of 5-10% you can expect to have 50-100 visitors to every blog post (remember, you don't sell, you just send visitors to your blog!)

    7) Do your own math. Do your visitors click affiliate links? Do they buy stuff from you?
There is a common saying on WarriorForum that a blog with 100 daily visitors can make you a few sales a day.

    8) If it works for you, invest the rest $8750 into buying solo ads, and you will build a list of 5000 subscribers, and a blog with 500-1000 daily visitors.

It may sound weird, but that kind of blog can bring you a few thousand dollars every month works, and yes, it can change your life.
Don't forget that you can outsource content creating to Fiverr or Upwork ($100-200 a month).

And it may work for you if you try. Why I believe that you can succeed? It's because you are

If you can't earn money from nothing ($0), you can't earn money with $10,000 in your pocket.

The whole point of throwing money at something IM related should be to scale up what you've already proven can earn you money.

The $10,000 won't change your life. What could change your life is figuring out how you can earn money on your own.

      Absolutely correct

that's why the most reasonable tip was...

Buying a money making site (with proof) and flesh it out to reach your 2'5k a month

Only buy what you can identify yourself with...

If you have a site with good stats and you can see that x traffic get's you y sales = profit, then you can check if you can make more sales by simply buying more buyer traffic

The hard part of IM is to get the ball rolling, if you have a winner which makes money it's usually just tweaking to have a top conversion (in the whole funnel) and then getting more traffic to it.
