The clients with capital C!

So far, I have seen quite a few and I wrote a couple of posts myself about bad experiences with the clients. This has created some kind of the wrong impression that there's nothing positive you can expect while working with the clients themselves, especially in the freelancing world. That's not true. I guess the reason is our imperfect human nature. We tend to pay attention to the negative news first. We also remember the bad things stronger and longer. That's understandable. So, I decided to suggest something.

I would like to encourage warriors to share their positive experiences. The very reason I'm still in the freelance business are the clients with capital "C." What's that supposed to mean? I want to make a distinction between these great guys and client troublemakers. It's great to work with great clients. You get paid. You enjoy your work. Your client appreciates. It's an ideal situation. What makes it be a perfect one are all those tiny details of a positive working relationship, I would like to share with you.

When I get a bonus, that's always more than the money itself. It's a message. You did a great job and I appreciate it. This doesn't mean that you on your end can't offer a bonus of your own. When I'm impressed with the client I'm working with, I usually tend to say, here's a small sign of my appreciation. May I write you a bonus page or post? It's on the house. Few times I had to hire a freelancer myself. For instance, when I needed a logo. Even a ten bucks bonus was such a positive sign of appreciation. A freelance designer was grateful and I felt great, as well. So, when it comes to bonuses, it's never about the money, isn't it?

One more example of working with a client with the capital "C." This happened to me a couple of times while working on long-term projects. We were jumping from one project to another. I was working. The client was paying. It was so dynamic that I didn't have time to check out the last payment. I didn't wait to see the payment, so I can proceed with the work. The client didn't wait to get all the work to make the payment. It was an open and a trustworthy relationship. At the end, I got all the payments and the client got all deliverables. It was such a pleasant working experience. We had no single thing to worry about. We weren't obsessed with the payments. I worked without any pressure. I just knew that I will get paid. The client knew that I will deliver what I promised. So, there was no need to play all those games of trust and wait.

So, do you have some clients with a capital "C" experiences, you're willing to share? I sure hope we're done with the bad news from the client's zone? Let's hear and share some positive experiences that keep us going and working. We owe to some of the great clients we have met on the way, don't we?

I see. This should've been much clearer.

For example, you have to the truth with capital "T" when you want to emphasize that something is absolutely true. In this case, I want to emphasize that some Clients are really special ones in every possible case.

My apologies, thought it was obvious.

  • Neshaworld that is a great idea about giving great clients bonuses too. Honestly getting bonuses from clients is a big deal to me too. Now to share my positive experience with a client, I had a couple of long-term clients that did not let go of me despite my being sick for a week. Although I am not an employee and just a replaceable freelacer, they continued to provide me with projects.

Exactly! I don't know what you do, but I'm sure you can find a way to offer a bonus work that isn't too expensive for you and it means a lot to your client. I write a bonus page. It's not a big deal. I can afford it and the client certainly appreciates it. So, give it a try. Thx.
