If there is an option I find that "Scrolling 25%" has a better conversion rate than timed. But it will be different for every type of website. I also set it them to pop up on intent to exit.

Best thing to do is set up some variations on your site and do split testing.

This. Personally I'm just annoyed and uninterested when presented with an exit popup, but absolutely, make this your mantra: test everything.

I definitely agree, you should be split testing to find out what works best for your site.

  • Delayed pops are the best and this makes sense also

User may end up subscribing for delayed popups

For exit up it will be pretty difficult as user has already decided to run from the offer.

I would try all the 3 combinations for the first 4 to 5 days during my pre launch .
One with both exit and delayed popup ,2nd only delayed popup when user clicks on something and 3rd using only exit popup

In almost all the cases delayed pop up will outperform the exit popup .

In short test and this can be easily done through a split testing software like STM etc etc .

I know this is too much work but will give you the biggest bank for your work .

That's why you offer something different or a discount.

I like delayed popups better. Exit popups may not work as strongly. They have been given much time to decide AGAINST the offer already, so I think delayed popups better.

Now a days most of the traffic are coming from either mobile phones or tablets. Exit pop does not work on these devices.

Just test it, it's the only way to know. It will work differently for different websites, niches and audiences.

Use a roll bar. Much more effective and considerably less intrusive and annoying. If you are unfamiliar with this method check out Hellobar.com. Free version or paid.
