Making an eBook visually appealing? Where can I find free / buy ebook templates?

I'm working on a language eBook at the moment but I've been having trouble finding a way to make the eBook look visually appealing. It's an eBook that details useful phrases in the language and I just want to have a fun, quirky design but I can only seem to find professional, corporate designs.

Would anyone happen to know any decent sites for ebook templates? Also does anyone use InDesign when making eBooks or do you guys prefer MS word?

For covers, try Canva.com. They have some nice templates.

    Hi:

You can get low cost book covers on fiverr.com. You can also try upwork.com for low cost covers.
You can design your own cover for free on Canva like ShayB said above.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions but I'm actually referring to the overall layout/template/styling of the eBook beyond the ecover. I recently found Vellum for mac and that seems to be good.

I've always used Scrivener. Vellum looks good. Unfortunately, I'm on Windows (have been since the dawn of time).

Ah, my mistake. I use Open Office for the layouts of my books.

Yes, I use Word and there are all kinds of templates available. Have you tried searching Google with something like "free ebook design template"?

Also, if you find an ebook design that you like, just create your own WORD template based on the model you like. There are instructions withing the WORD "help" that show you how.

    The best to you,

My best tip is to use Google Slides then download as a PDF.

Great templates to choose from and so easy to make your own...plus it is 100% completely free.

I have created eye catching books that have gone viral as a result.

I've used both Word and Open Office, but these days, it's Scrivener all the way.

At ~$40, it's a steal, but look around before you buy, You can usually find a coupon code. (IIRC, I paid $27)

Considering how competitive ebook products are nowadays, you really can't afford to gamble with your first impressions.

    You really can't.

Go to Fiverr and spend all of 5 bucks to find solid covers that increase your chances of conversion
