Avoid Copyright Infringement! Use This Tool to Find Free Stock Photos for Your Display Ads

Anyone who has ever downloaded an image from anywhere on the Internet free of charge, without first confirming the usage rights on that image, can probably tell you how expensive a copyright infringement lawsuit is. Because if you don't do it right, you may end up using a copyrighted image that belongs to another company or artist without their permission. That's illegal.

There are a couple of ways to properly search for an image online to avoid copyright infringement:

1. You can Google "free stock photos" to find the various online sites that offer hundreds of images free of charge for anyone to download and use in their display advertising.

2. You can do a Google Advanced Image Search and choose the keyword of your choice (e.g. the keyword I used to find my avatar for this forum was "best seller") along with this usage rights option: free to use, share or modify, even commercially.

For example, by doing that Google advanced search, I found this page where you can clearly see this is a free vector graphic that can be downloaded by anyone to use: https://pixabay.com/en/best-seller-s...mp-red-158885/

How can you be sure the image you're using is safe? Here is Google's advice in that regard:

Does anyone else have any additional advice to add here? Any lessons learned in this area that you want to share with others so they avoid the same problems you encountered?

Nice tips but are you making a problem that doesn't exist?

I used to work for a big company, and they regularly stole photos but just took them down if there were complaints (there never were any complaints).

No, this is indeed a concern for anyone using other people's photos. Copyright infringement is a real issue that people need to be aware of. Always, always, always make sure you check the usage rights on images/graphics before you use them.

So, what brettb is telling you that if and when he learns digital marketing, and has any digital products for sale, he is ok with you stealing and selling them.

Yes. Since Google doesn't guarantee the validity of its copyright advice, you can save time by going straight to the sites that provide free stock images. There's a selection in this thread:

This ^. Don't trust Google as it's user generated.

There are plenty of site you can legitimately get free images from and even more that sell them fairly cheaply.

Now depending on what you are using the image for I'd recommend not using stock photography at all.

Team up with a college or university and you can help a student get credit and get brand new images. More importantly the images are exactly what you need.

Stock images are good but you can generally tell they are stock photos.

I use Pixabay or public domain images. Millions of images and they are all available for use free of charge. Either that or I take/create my own images and graphics. That way you know you are pretty much safe.
