Indie Film promotion question

Hey there warriors. We shot a feature film and after the festival rounds are now trying to find distribution. I'm looking into possibly self distributing via Amazon Prime and Itunes, but the obvious problem is getting it seen. What advice do you guys have as far as promoting it goes? Can it be successfully done with affiliate marketing style? It has its own website right now but not really sure where to go with it next. It's a film about an exotic dancer, so even youtube promotions won't let me promote it because it has adult themes. Anyway, advice would be great. I tried putting a link to website but the mods wouldn't approve it

I've got some experience with independent films.

Are you in direct contact with bloggers and reviewers? Even if you're sending out screeners don't expect a response unless you're sending to small sites.

I can't tell you how many screeners get sent to me every month and most of them are just ignored because there's been no communication.

So approach critics, bloggers, Youtubers etc first, and if they have previously talked about similar films to yours they will be more inclined to take a look.

Remember, they're giving up their time to watch and write about your film, so if you offer them access to the talent; the stars and the director, you're more likely to get a boost.

Does emailing them a screener link work? And other than Jason Richter we don't have any big names in our film, and he is a former child star.

The film looks good, openlenspdx. I got started in online marketing just over 22 years ago, but I've been a screenwriter for longer, 27 years. My first piece of advice is to look into Youtube Red. Take a look at this article on Daily Dot. In terms of traffic, I'd need to know more about the content of the film. A look at the trailer (and maybe I missed any rating) tells me that we're talking about an R-rated film here; a thriller with adult themes. If so, you can use most conventional traffic channels, just so long as you keep your media on each platform family friendly. (On some platforms like FB, you can filter for just adults, but you're still best using family friendly media. And that isn't as bad as it seems. Just take a look at most horror-themed accounts and you'll see zombies, crazies, and so forth.) Upshot, openlenspdx, in your shoes I'd combine socials (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) with Youtube. You have plenty of other options but those 2 (in general terms) are where you should concentrate.
