    In a word.... VALUE!

You can give them all that stuff you mentioned and if they don't get any benefit from it they just think you don't know what you're talking about.

Provide immense value to your subscribers and readers. Give them information that they can take action on and produce real results.

Do that and you'll have all the trust you need.

Not sure what you're referring to when you say "automated" list building. If you mean using an autoresponder service like GetResponse or aWeber, then yes, that is the way to go.

IMO, you'll have success if you cater to the needs and desires of the individual subscriber . . . which means building the list one person at a time. Give your audience assistance, value, and top customer service and you should be just fine.

Like the guys said above...if it's trust that you are after...keep giving them value.

You give them value by solving issues that they may going through...solutions etc.

How do you know what they are going through or need help with?

    You can ask them.

There are software's like survey monkey where you can immediately redirect them to after they opt in.

Maybe "success stories" may cover it but I would also include some information about your own self. Not just your successes but also mention your failures and obstacles and how you overcame them.

Make yourself "real" to these people on your List and you will build Trust that much more
